Indian women’s cricket team created history by beating Australia in the Test format for the 1st time in 11 attempts. The match played at the DY Patil stadium as Alyssa Healy won the toss and chose to bat first. It was a huge shot in the arm for the visitors as the wicket tends to take turn in India on the final few days of the game. 

Australia batted first and scored 219 runs, the best batter for the Aussies was Tahlia McGrath who scored 50 runs from 56 balls. Her knock contained 8 fours while Beth Mooney who opened the batting scored 40 runs from 94 balls with 2 fours. Skipper Healy scored 38 with the bat from 75 balls with four boundaries and a six. 

The best bowler for India was pacer Pooja Vastrakar who picked 4/53 from her 16 overs. Sneh Rana was the next best bowler with 3/56 from her 22.4 overs while Deepti Sharma picked 2/45 from her 19 overs. This impressive performance by the bowlers also meant that when India came out to bat they were brimming with confidence. 

Team India achieves historic Test win against Australia

India were bowled out for 406 in their 1st innings with an overall lead of 187. Openers Shafali Varma and Smriti Mandhana added 90 for the 1st wicket in just 16.4 overs. Varma was out for 40 when she was dismissed by Jess Jonassen. Smriti Mandhan then took charge and scored 74 runs as she perished to a run out. 

Richa Ghosh batted well to score 52 off 104 balls while Jemimah Rodrigues scored 73 off 121 balls. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur failed with the bat scoring a duck while Yastika Bhatia scored just 1 with the bat. Deepti Sharma batting at 8 scored 78 runs from 171 balls while Pooja Vastrakar scored 47 as the pair added 122 runs for the 8 the wicket. 

In their 2nd innings, Australia were all out for 261 with Tahlia McGrath yet again top scoring with 73. Sneh Rana did the star turn with the bat picking 4 wickets to help India face a small target. Needing 75 runs to win, India won the game by 8 wickets as Smriti Mandhana was not out on 38 and register their 1st win over Australia.
