On Thursday, West Indies and New Zealand met in the 1st match of the three-match T20I series. New Zealand first set a huge target which was close to 200 and throw it to the West Indies with the help of great batting. West Indies came close to that target but could not achieve that target in the allotted 20 overs. As a result, they have to leave the field with a loss. Also, the man of the match award went to Mitchell Santner.

West Indies won the toss and put New Zealand into bat and they chose to field. With the help of Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, and James Neesham, New Zealand set a target of 185 runs with the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

After losing the toss and batting first, Guptill left the field after being caught out in the 8th over of the innings. He scored 16 runs off 17 balls. His innings of 16 runs had 1 four and 1 six. Another disaster followed that Devon Conway was caught out on the very next ball. He played beautiful innings of 43 runs off 29 balls. He also hit 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Shortly after that, Glenn Phillips made his way to the dressing room. He scored 17 runs off 11 balls. His 17 runs included 1 four and 1 six. Daryl Mitchell was dismissed in the 17th over. He too could not go far. He made 16 runs off 12 balls with the help of 1 six.

After that, Captain Kane Williamson, who could not make fifty after going close to fifty, left the field disheartened. This captain could not make 50 for just 3 runs. He returned to the dressing room after scoring 47 runs off 33 balls. But he hit 4 fours and 2 sixes.

After that, the Kiwis did not lose any more wickets. In the end, James Neesham and Santner put the team’s total ahead. James Neesham remained unbeaten on 33 off 15 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Besides, Santner scored 4 runs off 3 balls. They finally reached 185 runs with 9 runs extra.

Odean Smith took 3 wickets for 32 runs in 4 overs for West Indies. Besides, Obed McCoy and Jason Holder took one wicket each.

Came to chase the target of 186 runs, but the opposite team could not reach that target. They scored 172 runs after losing 7 wickets in 20 overs.

First, Kyle Mayers was trapped in lbw by Tim Southee. He scored 1 run in 4 balls. Then skipper Nicholas Pooran left the field with 15 runs off 8 balls. Also, he hit 2 fours and 1 six. Devon Thomas got out after scoring just 1 run off 3 balls. Shortly after that, Shimron Hetmyer left the field with 2 runs from 3 balls.

Shamarh Brooks played the beautiful innings of 42 runs off 43 balls. He also hit 2 fours and 3 sixes. Besides, Rovman Powell scored 18 runs off 12 balls. Jason Holder scored 25 runs off 19 balls. Romario Shepherd remains unbeaten on 31 runs off 16 balls and Oden Smith remains unbeaten on 27 runs off 12 balls. In the end, they could not reach the target with 10 runs extra. As a result, they had to leave the field with a loss.

Mitchell Santner took 3 wickets for New Zealand at the cost of 19 runs in 4 overs. Besides, Ish Sodhi, Lockie Ferguson, Tim Southee, and Trent Boult took 1 wicket each.
