WI vs BAN (1st Test – Day 3)

The host West Indies are on their way to getting a victory at the end of the third day of the Antigua Test. Chasing an easy target of 84 runs, the Caribbeans finished the day’s game with 49 runs for 3 wickets. They need only 35 runs to win. John Campbell (28) and Jermaine Blackwood (17) will start the fourth day’s play for the Caribbeans.

Earlier, the visiting Bangladesh took an 83-run lead in the match by relying on a 123-run batting partnership between Shakib Al Hasan and Nurul Hasan, who was in danger of losing the game by an innings. They were bowled out for 245 in 90.5 overs in the second innings.

Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Najmul Hossain Shanto started the morning of the third day carefully. The pair also spent the first half-hour well. But then Shanto made a mistake. The left-arm batsman was easily caught in the second slip as the ball was edged on his bat in Kyle Mayers’ bouncy delivery. He scored 17 runs off 45 balls in 3 boundaries.

Then Mominul Haque (4) returned quickly to the pavilion. The umpire raised his finger at Kyle Mayers’ delivery, which struck Mominul’s pad. Mominul took the review. It was seen that the ball just hit the leg stump but the left-handed batsman had to return as the umpire’s call was against him. He made zero runs in the first innings.

Tiger supporters had high hopes for Liton Das as he is in good form. He also made a pair of 25 runs with Joy. But in the end, the right-handed batsman made his way to the dressing room with a personal 17 runs. Liton was caught on the second slip while playing a useless shot on Kemar Roach’s delivery that was far away from his body.

Experienced batsmen went back to the dressing room one by one but the young opener Joy was showing patience. But when he went out to play a shot in the delivery of Kemar Roach, he was caught by the wicket-keeper. Joy played a patient innings of 42 off 153 balls with 3 boundaries.

After the departure of Joy, Bangladesh lost 6 wickets for 109 runs and almost dropped out of the match. But Shakib and Nurul pulled the team from there. The duo batted dazzlingly in the second session after the lunch break. In this session, Bangladesh took a lead by avoiding an innings defeat. He made 95 runs in 27 overs without losing a single wicket. Bangladesh went to the tea break on the third day with 210 runs for 6 wickets.

Caribbean fast bowler Kemar Roach finally broke the 123-run stand-off 231 balls. Shakib finally lost his temper and was caught by Kraigg Brathwaite in the short extra cover while going for a drive. The Tiger captain played an innings of 63 runs off 99 balls with the help of 9 boundaries. This was the 29th half-century of his career.

After three overs, Roach sent Nurul to the dressing room as well. Trying to play the ball towards the point region, Nurul was caught by the wicketkeeper. He hit 11 fours in his 64-run innings off 147 balls. Then the Caribbeans did not take time to wrap up the tailenders.

Kemar Roach was the most successful bowler for the West Indies. The pacer took 5 wickets for 53 runs. Alzarri Joseph also picked up three wickets and two wickets were taken by Kyle Mayers.

Chasing an easy target of 84 runs, the Caribbeans lost 3 wickets for 9 runs in the great bowling of fast bowler Khaled Ahmed. In the second over of the innings, Khaled showed some magic with the ball in hand. He took a pair of wickets in that over and took another wicket in his next over.

The first victim of this right-handed pacer was Brathwaite. The Caribbean captain (1) was caught by wicketkeeper Nurul with a great diving catch as he nicked a ball that was about to go away down the legside. After three balls, Khaled showed Raymon Reifer (2) the way to the dressing room. Nurul did not make a mistake in catching the ball behind the wicket.

In the next over, Khaled bowled Nkrumah Bonner (0) with a great delivery. However, Campbell and Blackwood have passed the remaining third day playing safely.
