Two neighboring countries Bangladesh & India announce their squads for ICC T20 WC 2021

On Thursday afternoon,  Minhajul Abedin Nannu, the chief selector of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)  has announced the squad for the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2021 at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Mahmudullah is going to lead the Tigers in the World Cup. A total of 15 players have been included in the squad. Besides, there are two more cricketers on the reserve list.

The list of spinners comprises world-class all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, and Mahedi Hasan. The three fast bowlers are Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, and Taskin Ahmed. All-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin will also be seen in the role of pacer with the team. Shamim Hossain got a place in the squad. Mosaddek Hossain Saikat hasn’t been given a place in the team. The Tigers’ World Cup duties will begin on October 17 with a qualifier match against Scotland.

Alongside BCB, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-member squad led by Virat Kohli for the T20 World Cup 2021 on Wednesday night. Ravichandran Ashwin, who played his last international T20 match in 2017, has been called up to this team.

Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have retained their places in the team. Besides, leg-spinner Rahul Chahar and spinner Varun Chakravarthy have been called up for the team as well. Apart from Ashwin, Chahar, and Varun, two more spinners are there and they are Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. The pace bowling department will be handled by Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami, and Hardik Pandya.

However, disputes are ongoing as two wrist spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav did not get a place in the World Cup squad. Left-arm opener Shikhar Dhawan also has been ruled out. Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, and Deepak Chahar have been kept as reserve players.

Former captain MS Dhoni has been named as India’s World Cup mentor. BCCI secretary Jay Shah said Dhoni, the captain who led India to win the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007 and the 2011 ODI World Cup, will work with head coach Ravi Shastri and the other coaching staff.

India will start their World Cup journey on October 24 with a match against arch-rivals Pakistan.
