India finished Day 2 of the India vs England second Test on top as they were leading England by 171 runs on Saturday, February 3 in Visakhapatnam. After scoring 396 in the first innings courtesy of a splendid double hundred by Yashasvi Jaiswal, the hosts bundled out the opposition for 253 as Jasprit Bumrah ran through the England batting order. In the second innings, openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (15* off 17) and Rohit Sharma (13* off 13) took India to stumps unscathed with 28 runs on the board.

After bundling out India in the first session, England once again got their innings off to a great start. Openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett took on the Indian bowling right from the word go and added 59 runs for the first wicket off just 62 balls. Kuldeep Yadav drew first blood for India as he dismissed Duckett caught at silly point. However, despite losing his opening partner, Crawley continued to attack and raced to 76 in almost run-a-ball. His innings ended courtesy of a brilliant catch by Shreyas Iyer at point.

With Joe Root walking in at number four, India captain Rohit Sharma brought Jasprit Bumrah into the attack and the seamer lived up to his reputation by dismissing the England batting stalwart and also dismantled Ollie Pope’s stumps with a searing yorker.

Bumrah (6/45) further got the big scalps of Jonny Bairstow (25 off 39), Ben Stokes (47 off 54) and tailenders Tom Hartley and James Anderson to register his best figures in India and bundled out England for 253. Apart from him, Kuldeep Yadav (3/71) also chipped in with three wickets.

Yashasvi Jaiswal became the third-youngest Indian batter to score 200

Earlier in the day, India resumed their innings on 336/6 with Yashasvi Jaiswal (179) and Ravichandran Ashwin (5) at the crease. The duo extended their partnership to 34 before rampant James Anderson got rid of Ashwin with a peach of a delivery to leave India on 364/7. Seeing himself running out of partners, Jaiswal quickly shifted gears and completed his double century with a six and a four off consecutive deliveries.

As a result, he became the third youngest batter from India to score a Test double hundred after Vinod Kambli and Sunil Gavaskar. However, he couldn’t continue his innings for long as the southpaw had to up the ante with wickets falling at the other end and got caught at deep extra cover for 209. Following his dismissal, the tail also couldn’t do much and India were bundled out for 396.

One of the best bowling performances seen from India in a home Test, with the pitch offering little help.
Bumrah has done to England what Ollie Pope did to India in the first Test. 👏👏👏👏#INDvsENG
