Ace India batter Virat Kohli has withdrawn from the first two Tests against England in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam just three days before the start of the opening Test which was held on January 25. Notably, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) broke the news, stating the cricketer backed out of two games because of personal reasons.
Meanwhile, legendary South African cricketer and Kohli’s close friend AB de Villiers on Saturday, February 3, revealed that the India batter and his wife Anushka Sharma are expecting their second child. Notably, this development has now led to clouds of doubt over his participation in the next three Tests against the Ben Stokes-led side.
“I wrote to him (Kohli), ‘I’ve been wanting to check with you one thing for a while now biscuit, how are you doing?’ He said, ‘How are you, Just need to be with my family right now.’ So, yes his second child is on the way, it’s family time. You cannot judge Virat for that, and yes we miss him but he’s made the right decision. We wish him all the very best for the great blessing of being able to become a father for the second time and All the Best to Anushka as well,” De Villiers said in a live session on his YouTube channel.
However, there were mixed reactions from the fans after De Villiers disclosed the news about Anushka’s pregnancy. Several fans were so excited after hearing the news and they sent congratulatory messages to the couple. Meanwhile, others trolled the Proteas legend for revealing the information which Kohli and Anushka kept secret. Apart from this, the selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, is reportedly planning to have a discussion with the former India captain regarding his availability for the remainder of the Test series.
