Top three oldest players to play international cricket

It has been seen that cricket or any other sport can only be played till a certain age. In the last many decades, the results have suggested such. Most of the time, when a player is close to 40 or in their early 40s decides to retire from the game. A sporting profession is considered a young person’s game, although 40 has been the new young.

Meanwhile, some players have made some immensely crazy records in terms of age. In other words, they have set the record of being the oldest players to play at the highest level. At this point, it is doubtful that those records will be broken. Meanwhile, in this listicle, we will discuss three players who are the oldest to play international cricket.  

Three oldest players in international cricket

1. Wilfred Rhodes

At the end of the 19th century, Rhodes started playing for England. Born in 1877 in Yorkshire, he played for the European side in India and the Maharajas of Patiala XI. Not to mention, this was the time when the draconian British Raj on India was at its peak.

Meanwhile, talking about his playing career, he played 58 Tests and a whopping 1110 First Class games. The last record will be broken. Meanwhile, there is another record that cannot be broken. He is the oldest player to play Test cricket, as he played his last at 52 years and 165 days old in 1930.  

2. Herbert Ironmonger

The late Aussie cricketer had a short but notable career in the game. He debuted in 1928-29 against arch-rivals England at 45 years and 237 days. Also, he was involved in a Test match in which South Africa was bowled out for 36 and 45 in two innings.

Meanwhile, he is the second oldest player at the highest level. However, he missed out on the record by over two years compared to Wilfred Rhodes. At the age of 50 years and 327 days, he played his last game in 1933. 

3. William Gilbert Grace

The late England cricketer missed out on the record of becoming the second oldest player to play by just seven days, compared to Ironmonger. Meanwhile, he has made some other records that won’t be broken, including the age factor one. He played 870 FC games; he has amassed 54211 runs. Taking about his Test career, he played 22 games.
