Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Stars (Match 15) – Highlights

Sydney Sixers clinched an impressive 7-wicket win against Melbourne Stars in match 15 of BBL 2022/23 at the Sydney Cricket Ground courtesy of Moises Henriques’ brilliant batting style. He was adjudged player of the match for his unbeaten match-winning innings of 52 off 32 balls, with 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques elected to field first after winning the toss and sent Melbourne Stars into bat. Melbourne Stars collected a fighting score of 150 runs after losing 5 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. In reply, Sydney Sixers reached the port of victory by losing only 3 wickets in 19.1 overs.

The Stars batsmen could not get off to a good start in the controlled bowling of the Sixers’ bowlers after coming to bat first. Opener Thomas Rogers returned to the dressing room before opening the run book on the 2nd ball of the innings. Then James Seymour, who was one down, got out in the 3rd over after scoring only 6 runs off 5 balls. As a result, Stars could not score more than 33 runs after losing two wickets in 4 overs of Power Play 1.

Stars were knocked out of the match when in-form wicket-keeper batsman Joe Clarke (27) returned to the pavilion with the first ball of the 6th over. Beau Webster brought the team back into the match from there. He continued to single-handedly drag the team to a fighting score. But no one could give him worthy company. Nick Larkin scored 12 runs off 19 balls. Another partner Hilton Cartwright played an unbeaten innings of 20 runs off 20 balls.

However, Webster struggled on the wicket till the last over of the innings. He played a devastating innings of 78 off 51 balls before returning to the pavilion. His innings had 4 fours and 3 sixes. Hayden Kerr took the maximum of 2 wickets for the Sixers. Besides, Sean Abbott, Jackson Bird, and Steve OKeefe took 1 wicket each.

Chasing a challenging target of 151 runs, the Sixers’ batsmen were put under a bit of pressure in the beginning by the bowling canon of the Stars’ bowlers. They lost wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Philippe (1) in the 2nd over of the innings. After that, the team’s run rate slowed down quite a bit. As a result, they were able to score only 25 runs after losing 1 wicket in 4 overs of Power Play 1.

James Vince and Kurtis Patterson put on a 57-run partnership for the 2nd wicket. Vince returned to the dressing room with 33 runs off 28 balls for the team’s 61 runs. Patterson (24 runs off 21 balls) also got out just 2 runs after his departure. After that, captain Henriques and Jordan Silk came to the wicket. They did not lose any wickets.

Henriques and Silk put on 88 runs for the 4th wicket partnership. In the end, these two batsmen left the field winning the team. Silk played an unbeaten 30-run innings off 30 balls. On the other hand, Henriques remained unbeaten with 52 runs off 32 balls. Adam Zampa, Beau Webster, and Luke Wood took 1 wicket each for the Stars.
