Still, Coach Siddons has strong faith in Shanto

Najmul Hossain Shanto played an innings of 163 runs in the Tests on the tour of Sri Lanka last year. Then, came another Test century on the Zimbabwe tour from the left-arm top-order batter. But the picture for the next 15 innings is completely different – only fifty came from his willow. He has been out seven times in one digit. In total, his run is 279.

In the last home match against Sri Lanka, Shanto got out before going to the ten runs in the three innings of the two-match Test series. This puts pressure on the team from the beginning. Especially in the two innings of the Dhaka Test, where strong resistance was needed at number three, Shanto could not stay on the wicket.

However, after the recent failure, the batting coach of the Bangladesh team Jamie Siddons still has confidence in Shanto. According to him, the Bangladeshi top order is not getting runs due to the pressure of the new ball. That is why recent events like becoming all out for 53 or 80 runs or losing 5 wickets for 24 runs are happening.

Speaking to media in Mirpur on Saturday, Siddons said, “The main threat is actually a new ball. We have to be better at batting against new balls. It will be much better if Mominul returns to form. I know Shanto is a much better player. Trust me, he is a very good player. Him returning to form is important for us. ”

He added, “We will need more partnerships like the Chattogram Test. Tamim and Mushfiqur are in good form. So, it seems like something good could happen. However, 5 wickets for 20 runs, and 4 wickets for 20 runs will have to stop. You can’t turn around from these places. It has been a problem for us for a long time. ”

Referring to the pressure of Test cricket, Siddons added, “This is the pressure of Tests. This is a difficult place to bat. Look at the ongoing Tests in England. This has happened in both cases. That is the game. Batting against new balls, batting against new balls at the end of the day is always difficult.”
