Sourav Ganguly will be the president of the Indian Cricket Board until 2025

The speculations that have been going on for a few days in Indian cricket have come to an end. Finally, hearing in the Supreme Court has been completed. Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah can legally hold their respective posts of the Indian Cricket Board till 2025 after waiting for almost two and a half years. The hearing was held on Wednesday before a bench of Justice Dhananjaya Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli. According to this ruling, Sourav will be the president till 2025 and Jai Shah will be the secretary.

Sourav Ganguly became the president of Cricket Association of Bengal in 2015. Then in 2019, he became the President of the Indian Cricket Board. Sourav has been in charge of the board for three years. According to the Supreme Court’s current directive, a person can serve on the board for six years. According to that, Sourav will be able to continue as the president of the board for another three years. That is, he will remain in this position until 2025. Jai Shah can also hold the position of secretary of the board as well.

It may be noted that according to the rules of the Lota Committee, a person was allowed to hold the post for a total of six years in the state and the board. Accordingly, Sourav’s term was till 2021. According to the rules, they are supposed to go into a cooling off period after that. Due to covid, the hearing wasn’t done. So Sourav’ committee is continuing their responsibilities.

Sourav’s home city Kolkata is in a wave of joy due to this verdict. Many have also congratulated the Maharaja of Calcutta on the news that the son of the house will handle the responsibility of the Indian Board for a few more days. Sourav, however, has not yet given any response in this regard.
