Indian cricket boss and former captain Sourav Ganguly will complete his term as president of the Indian Cricket Board in September this year. Meanwhile, the board meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the highest governing body of cricket, will be held in November. There is also talk of a new president. But will Sourav be the chairman of ICC after completing his duties in BCCI?
Greg Barclay, the current president of the International Cricket Council (ICC), has said that if Sourav aspires to become ICC chairman or is offered a job, he will fully support the offer to make him chairman. Barclay is currently in India to enjoy the final of the popular franchise league Indian Premier League (IPL).
Speaking to reporters there, ICC chairman Barclay said: “We have a very good relationship. If the ICC board thinks Sourav is suitable for the chairmanship, then I will support him. Sourav, however, did not tell me whether he wanted to run for ICC chairman. However, Sourav did not comment on the selection of the ICC chairman
The ICC board meeting will be held again in November this year. If the opportunity arises, will Barclay want to sit in the chair of the ICC President for the second time? In this regard, the current president of the ICC said, “If the opportunity comes, why not. The board will make a decision at its meeting in November. I have no problem if the board trusts me. ”
It may be mentioned that in October 2019, Sourav was elected as the President of BCCI. Previously, he was the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). Maharaja of Indian cricket joined CAB in 2015.
