Soumya returning to T20 team?

Liton Das is injured. Munim Shahriar, Enamul Haque Bijoy, Nazmul Hossain Shantara could not perform as expected despite getting the opportunity. In this situation, without seeing the way, the thought of returning Soumya Sarkar is going on.

Soumya was once the regular face of ODI and T20 teams. He has contributed to many victories of Bangladesh. But after the tour of Zimbabwe last year, the left-hander lost on slow wickets at home. His average and strikerate stumbled.

Was dropped after failing to utilize the chance in the first match of the T20 World Cup. This opener could not use it after getting a chance in a different position. Couldn’t perform in the last BPL. His performance in Dhaka Premier League is not satisfactory.

Even with these things in mind, the team management is going to trust Soumya’s natural ability. According to sources, they are going to trust Soumya’s ability to bat fluently on fast and bouncy wickets. Not only the Asia Cup, Soumya is also being considered for the World Cup. Bangladesh lost the T20 series in Zimbabwe this time. Soumya won the series against Zimbabwe last year. Before that, he played a stormy innings in New Zealand.

Monday was the last day to submit squads for the Asia Cup, which starts on August 27 in the United Arab Emirates. However, due to the injury problem, BCB has asked the ACC for an additional two days.

In the meantime, keeper batsman Nurul Hasan Sohan has been knocked out of the Asia Cup due to a finger injury. Liton is unlikely to recover before the Asia Cup. Yasir Ali Chowdhury Rabbi has not yet recovered from the injury. Mohammad Saifuddin’s fitness is also still uncertain.

All in all, the team management is in a very difficult situation to provide the Asia Cup team. The selectors are having problems with the openers too. Liton, who was in rhythm, was steady on one side. They were looking for someone on the other side. As Liton is also injured, this time there is a crisis on both sides.

Bijoy was given a chance to return to the team after a long time in the West Indies and Zimbabwe. But his style of play did not meet the demands of T20. Moreover, his fielding is a big concern. The selectors are not worried about moving forward with Bijoy.

Same situation with Shanto. The team is not in favor of carrying this left-hander, who has failed in all editions. Munim performed in the domestic league but could not show that streak on the international stage. Young Parvez Hossain Imon can get more opportunities in that regard.

Considering all these, the possibility of Soumya being in the Asia Cup team is strong.
