Robin Uthappa retires from all forms of cricket

India won the T20 World Cup in 2007. Robin Uthappa was an important member of that team. He also won the Indian Premier League (IPL) title for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014 and Chennai Super Kings in 2021. Uthappa said ‘goodbye’ to all types of cricket.

Uthappa announced his retirement in a tweet. In he wrote, “It has been my greatest honor to represent my country and my state, Karnataka. However, all good things must come to an end, and with a grateful heart, I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket. Thank you all.”

Uthappa made his ODI debut in the Indian jersey in 2006. He has played 46 matches since then. Uthappa scored a total of 934 runs with 6 half-centuries in his entire ODI career with the bat. This wicketkeeper-batsman last played ODI in 2015.

Uthappa got the T20 cap in 2007. In the same year, Uthappa played a vital role in India’s World Cup win under Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He played a total of 12 matches for the country in the shortest version. He scored 249 runs in his short career. Whereas Uthappa has a half-century with the bat, and that was in the World Cup.

He has also played in IPL. Uthappa had his best time in the Kolkata jersey. He also won the highest run scorer award in the tournament in 2014. In total, Uthappa scored 4952 runs from 205 matches with 27 fifties, making him the ninth highest batsman in IPL history.

As news of Uthappa’s retirement spread, many wished him well for his post-cricket career. It is believed that he can also play in foreign leagues like Suresh Raina. This is why he retired from all classes of cricket in India. There are strong rumors in the Indian media that he has already received clearance from the Indian Cricket Board.
