The Punjab caretaker government on February 20 (Monday), reviewed the security arrangements for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches to be played in Lahore and Rawalpindi following a terrorist attack on a Police compound in Karachi last week.

A meeting headed by caretaker Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, inspected the security arrangements made for the PSL matches in two cities. He further instructed the concerned authorities to link the Rawalpindi cameras with Lahore’s Safe Cities Authority to reinforce the security cover for the sports events.

As per the orders, a four-tier fence should be in place to ensure foolproof security for the matches in Lahore and Rawalpindi. The security on the routes of the teams also need to be ensured while avoiding long traffic stoppages on the roads.

The routes for the remaining matches in the PSL will be put under surveillance and monitored with the aid of at least 160 cameras in Rawalpindi. The second leg of the T20 extravaganza will feature matches held in Lahore, the capital of the Punjab province, which will commence on February 26.

“An effective publicity campaign should be launched to keep the citizens aware of the alternative routes during the movement of the teams. All departments concerned should maintain good coordination in this regard,” a statement issued after the meeting said.

A shuttle service will be run for the disabled and the elderly

Visitors will be provided with a parking facility at Gulberg College in Lahore and a shuttle service will run from the college to the Qaddafi Stadium for the disabled and the elderly. There are also arrangements being made to install lights along the entire route of the teams and around the stadium.

The ongoing season of the PSL has been an enthralling one so far as fans have got to see several memorable matches. The runner-ups of the last season, Multan Sultans are seen in top form as they find themselves on the top of the points table with three wins out of four matches.  On the other hand, Peshawar Zalmi are on the second spot with two wins from three matches. The rest of the four teams have two points each to their name.
