Pakistan’s dream broken, England’s second World Cup

Ending all speculations, England became the champion again in the World Cup. The team won the title for the second time after 2010. Babar Azam could not be Imran Khan as of 1992. Buttler eventually lifted the T20 trophy. Earlier in cricket history, West Indies had won the T20 World Cup twice. This time England shared that record.

Pakistan’s World Cup campaign didn’t get off to a good start, but they eventually made it to the finals. In this year’s T20 World Cup, Pakistan went on the back foot after losing to India and Zimbabwe in the first two matches of the group stage. But Pakistan turned around from its back against the wall and reached the final. On the other hand, England entered the finals as a rhythmic team playing well throughout the tournament.

In Melbourne England’s chance came to avenge that 1992 final loss. Pakistan led by Imran Khan tasted world victory by defeating the British in the historic ODI World Cup final. But in 2022, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes have really explained it.

England won the toss and invited Pakistan to bat first. However, Pakistan team failed to build up enough to fight in batting. The modest target of 138 runs given by Pakistan was topped by England with 5 wickets and one over in hand.

Even with a small capital, however, the Pakistani bowlers managed to make the match firefight. Shaheen Shah Afridi pressed the Englishmen from the start. However, gradually handling the pressure, England sat in the driver’s seat. In the end, Shaheen’s injury and the other bowlers losing control, Pakistan’s dream of winning the title was dashed. On the other hand, England is happy after winning the World Cup for the second time.
