Dawid Malans’ match-winning innings led Trent Rockets to a massive 7-wicket victory over Northern Superchargers in the 7th match of The Hundred 2022 at Headingley, Leeds on Tuesday. David Malan was adjudged player of the match for his brilliant innings of 88 runs off 49 balls.

Trent Rockets captain Lewis Gregory won the toss and elected to bowl first, which compelled Northern Superchargers to bat first. Northern Superchargers were able to score 152 runs after losing 8 wickets in the stipulated 100 balls.

Northern Superchargers were knocked out of the match after losing 6 wickets for 68 runs. But from there, Roelof van der Merwe and David Wiese brought the team back into the match. Northern Superchargers were able to cross the team score to 150 runs in the end due to the extraordinary partnership of 83 runs from 44 balls by both of them.

Roelof van der Merwe scored 30 runs off 24 balls with 1 four and 1 six. On the other hand, David Wiese played an innings of 50 runs off 27 balls. Where he hit 2 fours and 5 sixes in his innings.

Earlier, Northern Superchargers were in danger after losing wickets at the beginning of their innings. Adam Lyth returned to the dressing room after being caught by Luke Wood on the first ball of the innings. Captain Faf du Plessis also went back to the dressing room before opening his individual score sheet for the team’s 14 runs.

Michael Pepper and Dwayne Bravo then tried to hold on but could not stay on the wicket for long. Michael Pepper made 15 and Dwayne Bravo scored 19 runs before getting out. After that, wicket-keeper batsmen John Simpson and Adam Hoes put on a 19-run partnership for the 5th wicket, but it didn’t last long.

John Simpson returned to the pavilion with 10 off 14 balls and Adam Hoes scored 14 off 11 balls. Trent Rockets’ pacers played a key role in their demolition of Northern Superchargers. Aussie pacer Daniel Sams took the maximum number of 3 wickets. Besides, pacers Luke Wood and Luke Fletcher took 2 wickets each, and Samit Patel took 1 wicket.

Chasing a challenging target of 153 runs, Trent Rockets scored 86 runs from 53 balls in the opening pair. Opener Alex Hales returned to the dressing room with 43 runs from 27 balls smashing 4 fours and 2 sixes, but Dawid Malan continued to play a match-winning innings at the other end of the wicket.

After Alex Hales’ departure, Wicket-keeper batsman Tom Kohler-Cadmore was dismissed for 1 from just 3 balls when the team’s total was 93. Malan then added 52 more runs to the scoreboard with Colin Munro for the 3rd wicket partnership. Colin Munro returned to the pavilion with 15 off 14 balls, but Malan left the field after taking the team to the port of victory.

Dawid Malan remained unbeaten with 11 fours and 3 sixes, he collected 88 runs from 49 balls for his team. Courtesy of his innings, Trent Rockets won the match after losing only three wickets, they still had 6 balls left in the innings.

Dwayne Bravo, Adil Rashid, and Ben Raine took 1 wicket each for Northern Superchargers. After winning two consecutive matches, Trent Rockets has moved up to 2nd place in the points table. On the other hand, Northern Superchargers are now at the 5th position in the points table after losing this match.
