In the 31st match of The Hundred 2022 at Headingley, Leeds, Wayne Parnell’s brilliant spell helped Northern Superchargers to get an impressive 16-run win over Southern Braves. Bowling all-rounder Wayne Parnell was named the player of the match after scoring 14 unbeaten runs from 10 balls with the bat and taking 4 wickets with 16 runs from 20 balls.

Southern Brave’s captain James Vince won the toss and elected to field first. Northern Superchargers batted first as a result of that. Northern Superchargers were able to score 135 runs after losing 8 wickets in 100 balls that were bowled by Southern Brave’s bowlers.

Northern Superchargers collected 33 runs after losing 1 wicket in 25 balls of power play. Captain Faf du Plessis returned home scoring 7 runs from 5 balls in the team’s 17 runs. Opener Adam Lyth and batsman David Willey put on a partnership of 31 runs for the 2nd wicket. Which was the highest pair for the team.

After that, no other batsman could make a big pair. 26 runs for the 4th wicket and 17 runs for the 3rd wicket, which stood as the 2nd and 3rd highest partnership for them respectively. After that, the aggressive bowling attack of the Southern Brave bowlers kept the batsmen busy only in between wickets.

Willey scored 22 from 18 balls and Lyth scored 20 from 20 balls. Harry Brook played the highest innings for the team. He scored 29 runs off 17 balls, with 3 fours and 1 six. Besides, wicket-keeper batsmen Michael Pepper and David Wiese both played an innings of 13 runs.

In the end, Northern Superchargers got the foundation of fighting capital due to Wayne Parnell’s 10-ball unbeaten 14-run innings. James Fuller, Rehan Ahmed, and Sonny Baker took 2 wickets each for Southern Brave. Besides, Paul Stirling and Jake Lintott took 1 wicket each.

Chasing a challenging target of 136 runs, the Southern Brave was under pressure from the start. They lost 4 wickets to score 34 runs in the power play. Where Parnell took 2 wickets. Parnell sent openers Paul Stirling (5) and Alex Davies (2) back to the dressing room early. Also, wicket-keeper batsman, Quinton de Kock was run-out for 8 runs off 6 balls.

The Southern Brave got knocked out of the match when captain Vince (13) returned to the pavilion after being bowled by Callum Parkinson for the team’s 34 runs. After that, the batters tried, but Southern Brave could not reach the port of victory because of the furious bowling of the Northern Superchargers’ bowlers.

However, both Rehan Ahmed and James Fuller tried to bring the Southern Brave back into the match. But Parnell bowled brilliantly and sent both the batters back to the dressing room. With that, the Southern Brave’s dream of winning was shattered. Rehan scored 33 runs off 29 balls. In addition, James Fuller made 25 runs from 23 balls at the end. The innings of Southern Brave stopped at 119 runs losing 9 wickets.

Apart from Wayne Parnell for Northern Superchargers, Adil Rashid, Callum Parkinson, David Wiese, and David Willey picked up 1 wicket each. Northern Superchargers climbed to 6th place in the points table after winning this match. On the other hand, the Southern Brave is now at the 7th position in the points table after being defeated.
