Mominul Haque steps down as captain

Since the last tour of Sri Lanka, questions have been raised about the captaincy of Mominul Haque, the Test captain of the Bangladesh national team. Earlier Mominul has been widely criticized for making wrong decisions several times. He has not been able to concentrate on batting since he became the captain in 2017. Since taking over the captaincy, his batting average has dropped from 50 to 38.

Mominul had a discussion with Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hasan Papon about his recent performance and captaincy. At the end of the discussion, the left-handed batsman said that he did not want to be the captain anymore. He informed the board of his decision.

Mominul commented that he can’t contribute to the team as captain now. He said, “I think someone should be given the responsibility at the moment. I mean, now it’s up to them to decide. For now, I want to focus on batting,” Mominul told reporters after talks with board president Papon. “It’s good for me. There’s a board meeting upfront, they’ll decide. Papon Bhai (Nazmul Hasan) has heard me. He says stay, but I don’t really want the thing. I personally don’t really want it.”

Although Mominul has announced his decision, the decision will be taken at the next board meeting. In the absence of Mominul, the name of Shakib Al Hasan as the captain is being heard quite loudly. However, in response to a question as to whether Mominul had named anyone as his successor, Mominul said, “It is up to them to decide. I did not suggest that way. The board will decide who will be or not. They will think about who will be given. They will decide on the board meeting on the 2nd May. That is all I have to comment on. ”

There has been speculation for a long time that Shakib is going to take over the Test captaincy. Is that speculation going to take shape in reality? We shall soon find out in a few days.
