Melbourne Stars vs Perth Scorchers (Match 12) – Highlights

Melbourne Stars and Perth Scorchers met in the 12th match of BBL 2022/23 today (Friday). Perth Scorchers set a huge target in the scheduled 20 overs after batting first in that match. But in the 2nd innings, Melbourne Stars could not reach the target as the scheduled 20 overs ended. Also, after winning this match, Perth Scorchers are in the 3rd place in the points table and Melbourne Stars are in the 4th place after losing the match. Besides, Josh English won the man of the match title for Perth Scorchers due to his excellent batting. 

Perth Scorchers won the toss, elected to bat first, and invited Melbourne Stars to bowl. Batting first, their two openers Adam Lyth and Faf du Plessis started very well for Perth Scorchers. But Adam Lyth, who scored 7 runs from 8 balls, was caught out on the 4th ball of the 4th over. Then Nick Hobson came to accompany Faf du Plessis. The two put up a partnership of 70 runs. But Faf du Plessis left the field after the team scored 103 runs, playing great innings.

With the help of 6 fours and 5 sixes, he played astonishing innings of 68 runs from 33 balls. Shortly after, Nick Hobson left the field. He scored 46 runs off 26 balls before getting out. He also hit 3 fours and 3 sixes. Then Ashton Turner entered the field, but he left the field after playing only 2 balls and scoring 1 run. After he left, Aaron Hardie came to the field. Aaron Hardie and Josh English took the team’s 144 runs to 228 runs thanks to their great batting.

But with only 3 balls remaining in the last over, Josh English, who scored the most runs for them, was caught out and left the field. He played devastating innings of 74 runs off 33 balls with the help of 5 fours and 6 sixes. There was more drama in the last 3 balls, with Aaron Hardy leaving the field 1 ball after Josh English was dismissed. He scored 30 runs off 17 balls with the help of 1 four and 3 sixes. Then Jhye Richardson was out in the last ball and hit a golden duck. Besides, Ashton Agar was unbeaten at 1 run. In the end, Perth Scorchers made a mountain of 229 runs with only 2 extra runs.

Luke Wood took 5 wickets for 50 runs in 4 overs for Melbourne Stars. Besides, Trent Boult and Marcus Stoinis took 1 wicket each.

Batting with a target of 230 runs, the innings of Melbourne Stars stopped at 168 runs after losing 8 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. Beau Webster scored the most runs for them. He made 43 runs from 32 balls with the help of 2 fours and 2 sixes. Nick Larkin scored 34 off 24 balls with 4 fours and 1 six. Campbell Kellaway scored 25 runs off 14 balls. He also hit 1 four and 2 sixes. Joe Clarke scored 18 runs off 11 balls and Luke Wood scored 13 runs off 11 balls. Besides, Thomas Rogers scored 9 runs, Marcus Stoinis 4 runs, Hilton Cartwright 8 runs, and Nathan Coulter-Nile 6 runs. In the end, they could not reach the target with 8 runs extra.

For Perth Scorchers, Jason Behrendorff took 3 wickets, Peter Hatzoglou took 2 wickets, Jhye Richardson, Ashton Agar and Andrew Tye took 1 wicket each.
