KKR vs SRH Match Highlights

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by a huge margin of 54 runs in the 61st match of IPL 2022 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Saturday with Andre Russell’s all-round performance. KKR still keeps alive their hopes of the playoffs by winning this match.

After winning the toss, KKR captain Shreyas Iyer decided to bat, sending SRH to bowl first. Opener Venkatesh Iyer (7) returned to the dressing room at the beginning of the innings. However, Ajinkya Rahane and Nitish Rana’s 48 off 33 balls in the second wicket partnership gave the team a great power play. At the end of 6 overs, their collection stood at 55 runs for 1 wicket.

Umran Malik picked up a pair of wickets with the ball in hand in the eighth over. When Nitish scored 26 off 16 balls and Rahane hit 28 off 24 balls, KKR fell under pressure again. Shreyas Iyer (15 off 9 balls) and Rinku Singh (5 off 6 balls) were then dismissed early as well. As a result, KKR lost 5 wickets for 94 runs.

Andre Russell and wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings pulled the team out from there. They added 63 runs off 44 balls for the sixth wicket partnership. The pair broke up when Billings returned to the dressing room with 34 off 29 balls. However, Russell held on to one end and continued to strike hard until the end.

In the last over, Russell started to take on Washington Sundar. He took only two runs in the first two balls but he hit a six in the third ball. Russell could not take a run to stay on strike even if he got a chance to make in the next ball.

Sundar tried to bowl a yorker but it ended up being a low full toss and Russell threw the ball out of boundary over midwicket hitting a slog sweep. The next ball was a full toss, and the same result was seen in midwicket again. 

As a result of 3 sixes in the last over, KKR lost 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs and got a fighting capital of 177 runs. In 3 fours and 4 sixes, Caribbean all-rounder Russell remained unbeaten after playing a devastating innings of 49 off 28 balls. For SRH, Umran Malik took the maximum number of 3 wickets, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Marco Jansen, and T Natarajan took 1 wicket each.

Chasing a challenging target of 178 runs, SRH’s innings came to a halt with only 123 runs after losing 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Russell took the maximum number of 3 wickets for KKR conceding 22 runs in 4 overs. Basically, SRH stopped in front of his outstanding bowling.

Coming down to chase the target, opener Abhishek Sharma put up some resistance. He scored 43 off 28 balls. Captain Kane Williamson was out for 9 runs. Rahul Tripathi also scored 9 runs. Aiden Markram scored 32 runs. Besides, Shashank Singh scored 11 runs. None of the others could make a double-digit score.

Apart from Russell, Tim Southee took two wickets, and Umesh Yadav, Sunil Narine, and Varun Chakaravarthy took one wicket each for KKR.

Kolkata Knight Riders have risen to 6th place in the points table with 12 points from 13 matches with 6 wins and 7 losses. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad has secured 10 points with 5 wins and got defeated 7 times playing 12 matches, the orange army is in the 8th position of the standings.
