Cricket Highlights, 29 & 30 Aug: CPL 2021 (Match 7 & 8)

The 7th match of the CPL 2021 between Saint Lucia Kings and Trinbago Knight Riders & the 8th match of the CPL 2021 between St Kitts & Nevis Patriots and Guyana Amazon Warriors rolled on the field yesterday and today morning. CPL 2021 Match 7 (Saint Lucia Kings vs Trinbago Knight Riders)

In the 7th match of CPL, Saint Lucia Kings got a great victory of 5 runs against Trinbago Knight Riders with the all-rounder skill of Roston Chase. After losing the toss and being propelled to bat first, the Kings lost 5 wickets in 20 overs and scored 157 runs. The highest run for the team was scored by Tim David (43 off 32 balls). Chase also played an effective innings of 30 playing 24 balls. Ravi Rampaul (3-29, 4 overs) took the most wickets for the Knight Riders.

Coming down to chase the target of 158 runs, the Kings bowlers’ bowling cannon slowed down the run rate of the Knight Riders. Even though they did not lose many wickets, the batsmen were under pressure due to their frugal bowling. The Knight Riders needed 35 runs to win in the last 2 overs. 21 runs came in the 19th over. So, only 14 runs were needed in the last over. But despite the efforts of Tim Seifert and Colin Munro, Wahab Riaz did not let them score more than 8 runs in the last over.

Kings lost 3 wickets and ended the innings with 152 runs. Seifert and Munro both scored a maximum of 40 runs for the Knight Riders. Chase, Wahab Riaz, and Keemo Paul took one wicket each for the Kings.

CPL 2021 Match 8 (St Kitts & Nevis Patriots vs Guyana Amazon Warriors)

St Kitts & Nevis Patriots have won the 8th match of the CPL 2021 against Guyana Amazon Warriors by 6 wickets. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the Warriors lost 3 wickets in the allotted 20 overs and scored 166 runs. Mohammad Hafeez played the highest innings of 70 runs for the team. Shimron Hetmyer also scored 52 off 35 balls. Paul van Meekeren took the most wickets for the Patriots (2-23, 4 overs).

Coming down to chase the target of 167 runs, The Patriots’ two openers Evin Lewis and Devon Thomas put on an opening partnership of 69 runs. Then Lewis (30) and Thomas (31) returned to the dressing room and Sherfane Rutherford took the helm of the team. He left the field after playing an unbeaten 59-run innings facing 34 balls with smashing 1 four and 6 sixes. Dwayne Bravo (22) was on the wicket as his worthy partner. Courtesy of Rutherford’s devastating innings, the Patriots lost 4 wickets and reached the port of victory with 4 balls to spare. Imran Tahir took the maximum number of 2 wickets for the Warriors.
