In the 22nd match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, Australia have won by 7 wickets against Sri Lanka with 18 balls to spare at the Dubai International Stadium. After losing the toss, Sri Lanka scored 154 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Kusal Perera and Charith Asalanka played two innings of 35 runs for the Lankans. Besides, Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored 33 runs off 26 balls. For the Aussies, Adam Zampa took the highest number of 2 wickets conceding 12 runs in 4 overs. Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins also took two wickets each.

Australia got off to a great start after coming down to bat for a challenging target of 155 runs. They took 63 runs without losing any wicket in 6 overs of Power Play. Aaron Finch (37) and Glenn Maxwell (5) returned to the dressing room with the team’s 80 runs and Aussies fell under some pressure then. But from there, opener David Warner took the team to the brink of victory. He returned to the pavilion after playing a great inning of 65 off 42 balls with 10 boundaries.

In the end, the team reached the target in 17 overs courtesy of Steven Smith (28* from 26 balls) and Marcus Stoinis (16* from 7 balls). For Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga took the most number of 2 wickets and Dasun Shanaka took 1 wicket.

After winning this match, Australia has risen to 2nd place in the points table of Group 1 with the 2nd consecutive victory in Super 12. On the other hand, after losing, Sri Lanka is in the 4th position in the points table.
