At the end of the first day, England scored 120 runs without losing a wicket, they started the second day’s game with Haseeb Hameed (60) and Rory Burns (52) at the crease. But shortly after the start of the game, Rory Burns (61) returned to the dressing room after being bowled by Mohammed Shami. Then Dawid Malan came on the wicket.

Before going to the lunch break, Ravindra Jadeja picked up the wicket of Haseeb Hameed (68) as the first spinner of the match. Then England captain Joe Root made a partnership of 139 runs with Malan for the third wicket partnership. After scoring 70 runs, Malan went back to the dressing room in the ball of Mohammed Siraj, but Run Machine Root picked up the 23rd century of his career. With this, the England captain scored the third century in this series.

After playing a great innings of 121 runs with 14 boundaries, Root returned to the pavilion after being bowled by Jasprit Bumrah. Then Jonny Bairstow (29), Jos Buttler (7), Moeen Ali (8), and Sam Curran (15) returned to the dressing room one after another. In the end, Craig Overton (24*) and Ollie Robinson (0) remained unbeaten on wickets, giving the hosts a 345-run lead to end the second day’s play.
