Cricket Highlights, 25 Aug: ENG vs IND (WTC, 3rd Test– Day 1)

The 1st day’s game of the 3rd Test between England and India rolled on the field yesterday. Let’s have a glimpse at the article to know about the exciting happenings of it.

ENG vs IND (3rd Test – Day 1)

In the first innings of the third Test of the five-match series against England, visiting India got bowled out for just 78 runs. In Headingley, India’s world-class batting line-up has been shattered by the bowling of James Anderson, Craig Overton, Ollie Robinson, and Sam Curran. After failing to bat well, Kohli’s team did not get any success in 42 overs with the ball as well.

Earlier, Kohli’s team started to collapse after winning the toss and opting to bat first. They lost KL Rahul (0) in the first over. Cheteshwar Pujara, who came down at number three, returned with 1 run. Anderson then sent Indian captain Virat Kohli (7) back to the dressing room.

Team India could not cope with this initial disaster. In the end, the team was stopped at 78 runs. Rohit Sharma top-scored with 19 and Ajinkya Rahane scored 18. None other than these two Indian batsmen could reach double digits. England’s Anderson and Overton took 3 wickets each. Robinson and Sam Curran took 2 wickets each.

England finished the first day scoring 120 runs in 42 overs in reply to India’s 78 runs. Haseeb Hameed and Rory Burns are unbeaten scoring 60 and 52 respectively. In the meantime, the hosts have taken a lead of 42 runs and they still have 10 wickets in hand.

It is to be noted that India is leading the series 1-0 after winning the second Test match between the two teams.
