Cricket Highlights, 17 Jan: BBL 2021/22 (Match 52 & Match 53)

The 52nd match of the BBL 2021/22 between Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Sixers, the 53rd match of the BBL 2021/22 between Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers rolled on the field yesterday. 

BBL 2021/22 – Match 52 (Adelaide Strikers vs Sydney Sixers)

The Adelaide Strikers have picked up a huge victory of 8 wickets with 15 balls in hand against the Sydney Sixers in the 52nd match of the BBL 2021/22 at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide courtesy of Ian Cockbain’s great innings. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the Sixers lost 7 wickets in 20 overs and scored 161 runs.

Justin Avendano played a stormy inning of 52 off 29 balls with 1 four and 5 sixes for the Sixers. Jack Edwards scored 34 runs, and Josh Philippe and Daniel Christian collected 22 runs for the team. Fawad Ahmed took the highest number of 3 wickets for the strikers. Peter Siddle took two wickets, Matt Renshaw and Henry Thornton took one wicket each.

Chasing a challenging target of 162 runs, the strikers reached the port of victory after losing only 2 wickets in 17.3 overs. In 5 fours and 4 sixes, Ian Cockbain played the top-scoring innings of 71 runs from 42 balls for the team remaining not out. Matt Renshaw scored 50 off 31 balls and Jonathan Wells remained unbeaten on 27 off 23 balls. Hayden Kerr and Ben Dwarshuis took one wicket each for the Sixers.

After winning this match, the Adelaide Strikers climbed up to 4th place in the points table. On the other hand, the Sydney Sixers are now second in the points table on the losing side of the game.

BBL 2021/22 – Match 53 (Brisbane Heat vs Perth Scorchers)

In the 53rd match of BBL 2021/22, Perth Scorchers have got a big victory of 6 wickets with 8 balls in hand against Brisbane Heat courtesy of Mitchell Marsh’s devastating innings at Marvel Stadium in Docklands. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the Heat lost 7 wickets in 20 overs and collected 155 runs.

Max Bryant top-scored with 81 off 56 balls smashing 7 fours and 4 sixes for the Heat. Jimmy Peirson collected 71 and Sam Heazlett scored 10 runs for the team. Besides, no other batter could make a double-digit score. Peter Hatzoglou and Jason Behrendorff took the maximum number of two wickets each for the Scorchers. Ashton Agar, Mitchell Marsh, and Andrew Tye took one wicket each.

Chasing the target of 156 runs, the Scorchers reached the port of victory by losing 4 wickets in 18.4 overs. Mitchell Marsh played a great inning of 59 runs off 34 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes. Kurtis Patterson (26 off 20 balls) and Colin Munro (24 off 28 balls) also played a good role in the team’s victory. Mitchell Swepson took the most number of 2 wickets for the Heat.

The Perth Scorchers held the top spot in the points table by winning this match. On the other hand, The Brisbane Heat are now in 7th place in the points table after the debacle.
