Cricket Highlights, 13 Jul: ENG vs PAK (3rd ODI)

 

The 3rd and final ODI of the 3-match series between England and Pakistan rolled on the field yesterday. Let’s have a glimpse at the article to know about the interesting happenings of the game.

ENG vs PAK (3rd ODI)

England, the World Champions won by 3 wickets against Pakistan in the third and final ODI of the series in Birmingham on Tuesday (July 13). Chasing the huge target of 332 runs set by Pakistan, England reached the port of victory with 12 balls in hand.

After losing the toss and batting first, captain Babar Azam’s career-best 158-run innings helped Pakistan to reach 331 for 9. In the beginning, when Fakhar Zaman (6) returned to the dressing room with 21 runs, the visitors were in a little danger. From there, Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam’s 92-run stand in the second wicket brought the team back in the match. In 7 boundaries, Imam returned to the dressing room scoring 56 off 73 balls.

After that, Babar made the biggest pair of 179 runs in the innings with Mohammad Rizwan. With the help of 4 fours, Rizwan played a great inning of 74 runs from 58 balls. After that, however, the visitors lost several wickets to make quick runs. Pakistan lost the last 6 wickets for 26 runs.

Picking up the 14th century of his career, Babar returned to the pavilion after being top-aged with delivery by Bryden Carse scoring 158 off 139 balls. He smashed 14 fours and 4 sixes to make those runs. Brydon Carse, England’s most successful bowler of the day, took 5 wickets (5-61, 10 overs). Saqib Mahmood took 3 wickets.

England started to raise a storm as usual after coming down to chase the run. In the beginning, Dawid Malan (0) returned to the pavilion after being a victim of Hasan Ali, but the hosts did not flinch. Phil Salt and Zak Crawley played fast and the team got 53 runs in 6 overs. Salt (37) and Crowley (39) then fell victim to pacer Haris Rauf.

England lost 5 wickets to score 165 runs. But Pakistan could not stop the aggressive attitude of the England team. James Vince and Lewis Gregory put on 129 for the sixth wicket. Vince became the hero of the victory by scoring the first century of his career. With 11 boundaries, he played a stormy inning of 102 off 95 balls. The batsman returned to the pavilion after falling victim to Haris Rauf, while the English needed only 38 off 43 balls.

After that, Gregory, who scored 77 runs off 69 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes, was sent back to the dressing room but the visitors did not get benefitted from it. Craig Overton (18) and Brydon Carse (12) have done the rest of the work together. Haris Rauf has taken a maximum of 4 wickets for Pakistan.

England won the three-match series 3-0 with the second-string team. They also got a valuable 30 points for the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League.
