Cricket Highlights, 08 Jan: BBL 2021/22 (Match 40 & Match 41)

The 40th match of the BBL 2021/22 between Melbourne Renegades & Sydney Thunder, the 41st match of the BBL 2021/22 between Brisbane Heat & Hobart Hurricanes rolled on the field yesterday. 

BBL 2021/22 – Match 40 (Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Thunder)

In the 40th match of BBL 2021/22, Sydney Thunder has picked up a huge 129-run victory courtesy of Daniel Sams’ all-rounder performance against Melbourne Renegades at the Marvel Stadium in Docklands. Thunder lost 7 wickets in 20 overs and collected a big score of 209 runs after batting first.

Daniel Sams played a devastating inning of 98 runs playing 44 balls with 7 fours and 8 sixes for the Thunder. Alex Hales also played a stormy inning of 63 off 28 balls. Kane Richardson took the most number of 2 wickets for Renegades.

Coming down to chase the huge target of 210 runs, Renegades were bowled out for just 80 runs in 14.2 overs by the outstanding bowling of Thunder bowlers. James Seymour scored top for the team making 25 runs off 23 balls. Aaron Finch and Kane Richardson both played 2 innings of 17 runs. Mohammad Hasnain took the maximum number of 3 wickets for the Thunder. Gurinder Sandhu and Tanveer Sangha took two wickets each while Daniel Sams and Nathan McAndrew took one wicket each.

After winning this match, Sydney Thunder has risen to 2nd place in the points table. On the other hand, the Melbourne Renegades are now in 6th place in the points table after losing.

BBL 2021/22 – Match 41 (Brisbane Heat vs Hobart Hurricanes)

In the 41st match of BBL 2021/22, Hobart Hurricanes have got a big victory of 8 wickets with 16 balls in hand against Brisbane Heat thanks to the great innings of Ben McDermott in The Gabba of Brisbane. After losing the toss and opting to bat first, the Hurricanes” bowlers bowled brilliantly and the Heat was able to score 144 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Lachlan Pfeffer top-scored with 69 runs off 51 balls for the Heat. Will Prestwidge also scored 21 runs off 7 balls. Sandeep Lamichhane and Mitchell Owen took the maximum number of two wickets each for the Hurricanes. Also, Thomas Rogers, Riley Meredith, and Tim David took one wicket each.

Chasing an easy target of 145 runs, the Hurricanes reached the port of victory by losing only 2 wickets in 17.2 overs. Ben McDermott played a devastating inning of 93 off 61 balls smashing 10 fours and 2 sixes for the team. Peter Handscomb also scored 27 off 33 balls and D’Arcy Short made 12 off 5 balls. Will Prestwidge took the highest number of 2 wickets for the Heat.

After winning this match, Hobart Hurricanes rose to 4th place in the points table. On the other hand, after the debacle, Brisbane Heat is now in the 5th position in the points table.
