Cricket Highlights, 08 & 09 Sept: CPL 2021 (Match 21 & 22), BAN vs NZ (4th T20I)

The 21st match of the CPL 2021 between St Kitts & Nevis Patriots and Jamaica Tallawahs, the 22nd match of the CPL 2021 between Guyana Amazon Warriors and Saint Lucia Kings, & the 4th T20I of the 5-match series between Bangladesh and New Zealand rolled on the field yesterday and today morning. CPL 2021 – Match 21 (St Kitts & Nevis Patriots vs Jamaica Tallawahs)

In the 21st match of the CPL, Jamaica Tallawahs won by 22 runs against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots. After losing the toss, Tallawahs were sent to bat first and lost 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs to collect a challenging score of 169 runs.

Shamarh Brooks played the highest scoring innings of 43 runs playing 33 balls for the team. Captain Rovman Powell scored 37 and Andre Russell scored 28 runs. Dominic Drakes, Jon-Russ Jaggesar, and Fawad Ahmed took two wickets each for the Patriots.

Chasing a target of 170, the Patriots were under pressure from the beginning due to the fierce bowling of the Tallawahs’ bowlers. As a result, they lost 2 wickets in 6 overs of the Power Play and could score only 34 runs. In the end, the Patriots lost 8 wickets in 20 overs and scored 147 runs. Devon Thomas made the highest score of 34 for the team. Migael Pretorius took the most number of 3 wickets for Tallawahs. Besides, Veerasammy Permaul took 2 wickets.

Tallawahs is in 5th place in the points table after winning this match and the Patriots are still in 1st place after losing.

CPL 2021 – Match 22 (Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Saint Lucia Kings)

Guyana Amazon Warriors has defeated St. Lucia Kings by 17 runs in the 22nd match of the CPL.  After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the Warriors were able to score 151 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs courtesy of Brandon King’s great innings.  King played an excellent inning of 77 runs facing 57 deliveries with 8 fours and 3 sixes.  Jeavor Royal and Wahab Riaz took the maximum number of 2 wickets each for the Kings.

Chasing the target of 152 runs, the Kings lost 3 wickets to score 43 runs in 7 overs.  After that, Roston Chase (40 off 33 balls) and Tim David (47 off 42 balls) tried well but the Warriors’ bowlers did not let the opposition accelerate the run rate in the end.  As a result, the Kings got bowled out for 134 losing 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.  For the Warriors, Gudakesh Motie and Odean Smith took the maximum number of 2 wickets each.

The Warriors are in 4th place in the points table after winning this match and the Kings are in 3rd place in the points table after this defeat.

BAN vs NZ (4th T20I)

Bangladesh secured the series win in the fourth match of the five-match T20I series by winning the match by 6 wickets against New Zealand at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday. Also, for the first time, the Tigers have got the honor of winning the series against the Kiwis in the T20I format.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, New Zealand got bowled out for 93 runs in the allotted 20 overs by the Bangladeshi bowlers. Will Young scored the highest 46 runs for the team. Mustafizur Rahman and Nasum Ahmed took the maximum number of 4 wickets each for the Tigers. Mahedi Hasan and Mohammad Saifuddin took one wicket each.

Chasing an easy target of 94 runs, the host Bangladesh reached the port of victory by losing 4 wickets with 5 balls in hand. Captain Mahmudullah played the best unbeaten 43-run match-winning innings for the team. Besides, opener Mohammad Naim played an effective inning of 29 runs. Ajaz Patel took the maximum number of 2 wickets for the Black Caps.

The Tigers are 3-1 up in the five-match T20I series after winning this match. The two teams will face off in the last match of the series tomorrow.
