BBL 2021/22 – Match 1 (Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Stars)

The Sydney Sixers have defeated the Melbourne Stars by a huge margin of 152 runs in the opening match of the BBL 2021/22 at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday. After losing the toss and opting to bat first, Josh Philippe and skipper Moises Henriques’s devastating innings helped the Sixers to get a hefty total of 213 losing four wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Opening batsmen Josh Philippe and James Vince formed the opening partnership of 90 runs. Vince returned to the dressing room with 44 runs, but wicketkeeper-batsman Philippe played a great inning of 83 off 47 balls. Moises Henriques scored an unbeaten 76 off 38 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes in the end.

Chasing a huge target of 213 runs, the Melbourne Stars got all-out for just 61 runs in 11.1 overs. With the exception of Peter Nevill (18) and Hilton Cartwright (10), no other Stars batsman has scored double digits, and Captain Glenn Maxwell made only 4 runs.

Steve O’Keefe took the maximum number of 4 wickets for 14 runs for the Sixers. Besides, Sean Abbott took 3 wickets and Hayden Kerr took 2 wickets.

BAN vs PAK (2nd Test – Day 2)

On the second day of the 2nd Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan, only 6.2 overs that means 38 balls were played due to the cyclone Jawad. Due to intermittent rain since morning, the match was scheduled to start at several points, but it was not possible to start before 12:50 pm, and the game was stopped again within 31 minutes of the start.

However, Pakistan added 27 runs to the scoreboard without losing a wicket playing these 6.2 overs. Captain Babar Azam started the day’s game by hitting a boundary in the first ball, and he remained unbeaten on 71 before the game ended in the rain.

On the other hand, experienced batsman Azhar Ali is unbeaten on 52 runs. Azhar and Babar put together a pair of 118 runs. Pakistan lost two wickets and scored 188 runs to end the second day’s play. Due to the rain on the second day, the game will start thirty minutes earlier than the pre-scheduled time on the third day.

The Indian cricket team scored 69 runs without losing a wicket at the end of the second day; Mayank Agarwal (38) and Cheteshwar Pujara (29) started their day’s game with the bat. Virat Kohli’s team lost 7 wickets to collect 276 runs in their second innings and declared the innings.

Mayank scored 62 runs, Pujara and Shubman Gill both collected 47 runs. Captain Virat Kohli scored 36 runs. Axar Patel remained unbeaten after playing a stormy inning of 41 off 26 balls. Kiwi spinner Ajaz Patel, who took 10 wickets in the first innings alone, took the most number of 4 wickets in the second innings. He took 14 wickets in the match. Rachin Ravindra took the remaining 3 wickets of India in the second innings.

Batting for 540, New Zealand got cornered after losing 3 wickets for just 55 runs. Tom Latham (6), Will Young (20), and Ross Taylor (6) got out cheaply. Ravichandran Ashwin sent off the three top-order batsmen to the dressing room.

From there, Daryl Mitchell (60) put up some resistance for the Kiwis. But in the last hour of the day, the Kiwis lost Mitchell and Tom Blundell (0). New Zealand finished the third day’s play by collecting 140 runs for 5 wickets at the end of the day. Henry Nicholls (36*) and Rachin Ravindra (2*) will be on the field on the morning of the fourth day to chase the huge target of 400 runs more.
