Cricket Highlights, 04 Dec: BAN vs PAK (2nd Test – Day 1), IND vs NZ (2nd Test – Day 2)

BAN vs PAK (2nd Test – Day 1)

The first day of the second Test of the series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka was interrupted by rain. It was possible to play only 57 overs in the whole day. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat, they lost 2 wickets and collected 161 runs.

Pakistan openers Abid Ali and Abdullah Shafique put up 59 runs in the opening partnership. After that Shafique scored 25 runs and was bowled by Taijul Islam, Azhar Ali came to the wicket after the dismissal. After a while, Taijul sent off Abid Ali (39) to the dressing room as his second victim.

Babar Azam and Azhar then put up 91 runs for the third wicket partnership. But as the sky was foggy and cloudy, there was a lack of light. As a result, the match referee was forced to end the day’s match after the 2nd session. At the end of the first day, Babar (60) and Azhar (36) remained unbeaten.

IND vs NZ (2nd Test – Day 2)

The Indian cricket team scored 221 runs for the loss of 4 wickets at the end of the first day, they came to the field on the second day morning with Mayank Agarwal (120) and Wriddhiman Saha (25) at the crease. Indian-born Kiwi spinner Ajaz Patel took 4 wickets on the first day. But on the second day, the hosts were all-out to collect more 104 runs in his whirlwind magic. The Kiwi left-arm spinner also took six wickets on the second day.

Ajaz became the third bowler in the history of cricket to take ten wickets in an innings. He took 10 wickets for 119 runs in 47.5 overs in the first innings of the 2nd Test against India at the Wankhede Stadium.

Ajaz started to take on the Indian batters from the second over of the day. Wriddhiman (27) and Ravichandran Ashwin (0) were sent to the dressing room with two balls in a row. Ashwin was dismissed for zero, he was the third batsman of the innings to get out with a duck. Mayank is credited with getting India to a safe collection in Ajaz’s historic innings. He scored 150 runs after completing the fourth century of his career. Apart from that, Axar Patel was dismissed for 52 runs.

After that Jayant Yadav (12), Umesh Yadav (4), and Mohammed Siraj (0) returned to the dressing room one by one and Ajaz made a unique feat by taking ten wickets in one inning. As a result, Virat Kohli’s team was stopped at 325 runs.

Shortly after that batting in their first innings, New Zealand was bowled out scoring only 62 runs in 28.1 overs by decent bowling spells from Mohammed Siraj and Ravichandran Ashwin. At the same time, the Black Caps set the record for the lowest team innings against India.

With the exception of captain Tom Latham (10) and Kyle Jamieson (17), no other batsman has been able to make a double-digit score. Ashwin took 4 for 8 runs and Siraj took 3 for 19 runs.  Axar Patel took 2 wickets and Jayant Yadav took 1 wicket for the Men in Blues.

However, India was ahead by a hefty margin but did not compel New Zealand to follow on. India finished the second day with 69 runs without losing a wicket in their second innings. Mayank Agarwal (38) and Cheteshwar Pujara (29) will start the third day for India.
