CPL 2021 going to commence on August

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has made up its mind to host the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021 before the T20 World Cup 2021. All the matches of CPL will be held in one venue by ensuring a bio bubble for the safety of everyone during this difficult time of Covid-19.

If all goes well, the 9th edition of the CPL will start on August 28 at the Warner Park Stadium in St. Kitts Nevis, Bassett. The franchise-based tournament will finish on September 19 and a total number of 33 matches will be played at one venue.

There will be a certain pressure on the wickets as all the matches of the tournament will be held at one venue. So, a consultant who has worked at Eden Park in New Zealand and at various venues on behalf of the ICC, has been appointed to keep the wickets alright.

CPL CEO Pete Russell thanked St. Kitts and Nevis governments for helping to organize the tournament alongside their busy schedule. He is hopeful that this year’s tournament will be successfully organized even in such a serious situation of Covid-19.

Pete Russell commented, “It’s really exciting to have the 2021 event confirmed, and I thank the St. Kitts and Nevis government for agreeing to host this edition of tournament. We would also like to thank them for helping us out of their busy times. We are looking forward to host the Hero CPL again in 2021. “

Last year, spectators were not allowed to enter the field, but this time 50 percent of the total capacity will have the opportunity to sit on the field and watch the game. But the condition is that all the spectators who get vaccinated with Covid-19 will only be allowed to enter the field.

However, Covid-19 vaccination has been made mandatory for the spectators to enter the field but it is not mandatory for cricketers, coaching staff, and others involved in the tournament. The CPL authorities think that the bio bubble is enough for them. Last year, the West Indies was the first one to make a secured bio-bubble amid the Covid-19 to stage the tournament. So, this time too they are being inspired from there. Pete Russell said there is no need for vaccination for the players now because of the different arrangements.

Due to Covid-19, the CPL authorities will allow 6 franchises to practice in different places. Arrangements will be made for the teams to practice on the 6 islands adjacent to Warner Park.

The 1st edition of CPL was held in 2013. The current champion, Trinbago Knight Riders have won the CPL title 4 times so far. Barbados Tridents and Jamaica Tallawas have won twice.

CPL 2021 is scheduled to start in August. For more latest updates, keep an eye on Baji and predict the winners!
