The Asia Cup has just come to an end. Where Bangladesh has left in the group stage after completing all arts of failure. And the T20 World Cup will be screened in Australia next month. But BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon explained that Bangladesh is not very optimistic about this World Cup.
Several changes have been made in the Bangladesh team before the World Cup. A new technical consultant has been appointed from India. The captain has been changed. Also several other changes have been made in the red green team. However, the BCB president said that he is not targeting this year’s World Cup.
In a recent media interview, Papon said,
“Let’s say one thing clearly, what we are doing now is not for this World Cup. You can’t do anything targeting this World Cup. You have to do something targeting the next World Cup.”
He also said that it is impossible to get results overnight. And this is why Bangladesh is targeting the next World Cup. Papon added, “There is no coach, no board that will fix everything overnight in the T20 format. You have to think long term. We are building the team for the next T20 World Cup.”
It should be noted that Bangladesh could not succeed in the recently concluded Asia Cup. Shakib’s team had to return home after the failed tour. However, before leaving for the Asia Cup, Shakib said that Asia Cup is not their target. Let’s see how far the Tigers go in the upcoming World Cup.
