Bangladesh Cricket Board admits that BPL is lagging behind

Franchise-based T20 tournaments are ruling the current cricket world. Among these, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is at the top of all. Popular leagues like Pakistan Super League (PSL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and Big Bash are moving forward with time.

However, Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), once thought to be the most vibrant league after IPL, has lost its luster over time. This mega event of domestic cricket in Bangladesh is deteriorating day by day due to various obstacles. Chairman of the Governing Council Ismail Haider Mallick openly admitted that the BPL had fallen behind.

Mallik said, ”Once there were not so many leagues. So, we have reached a good position. Now there are many leagues in almost every country. It’s hard to compare. We want to have the best tournament in our country. I can’t say like before, if we are going to do IPL or PSL quality, it will be very difficult for us at the moment.”

About Technical issues and home and away facilities, Mallick said, ”It is very expensive. Then each franchise has to be sold for a lot of money. We have to move to another model. So far, I have not been able to go to Home and Away. Because our venue is not ready. So, we want to make one of the best domestic tournaments.”

Note that the curtain will rise on January 6, 2023, for the next season of BPL. Bangladesh Cricket Board said that there will be no opening ceremony at that event.
