India’s ODI setup continues to evolve as the selectors balance experience with emerging talent from the Test circuit. The Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI selection committee announced the 15-member ODI squad for the home series against the West Indies on September 16, with the series set to begin in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27, 2026.

Several Test specialists have been knocking on the door of the white-ball setup through consistent domestic and international red-ball performances.

3. Devdutt Padikkal

Devdutt Padikkal is a left-hand batter from Karnataka who has put together an impressive record in List A cricket, holding a batting average of 82.23 in that format. He also had a notable series against Sri Lanka in Tests, which further strengthened his case as a multi-format prospect.

However, Padikkal was not included in India’s 15-member ODI squad for the home series against the West Indies, nor was he part of the T20I squad for the same series. His List A numbers make him a player the selectors could consider when opportunities arise in the ODI setup.

2. Dhruv Jurel

Dhruv Jurel, who plays as a wicketkeeper-batter, was included in the 15-member ODI squad for the West Indies home series as the second wicketkeeper option behind vice-captain KL Rahul. Ishan Kishan’s involvement in the Asian Games 2026 created the vacancy that allowed Jurel to earn his recall to the ODI setup. He last played an ODI during India’s tour of Australia.

Jurel has also been impressive in List A cricket, scoring 747 runs in 17 matches at an average of 74.70. He has a strike rate of 113.35, with two centuries and six fifties to his name. His highest score in the format is an unbeaten 160, highlighting his consistency and ability to score big when set.

1. Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant, a left-hand wicketkeeper-batter, last appeared in an ODI on August 7, 2024, against Sri Lanka. In 31 ODIs, he has scored 871 runs at an average of 33.50, with a top score of 125 not out. His last Test appearance was on August 15, 2026, against Sri Lanka.

Despite being a member of India’s 2024 T20 World Cup-winning team and the 2025 Champions Trophy-winning team, Pant was not selected for the ODI squad against the West Indies, with Jurel preferred as the second wicketkeeping option. He had also been dropped ahead of the earlier home ODI series against Afghanistan. Pant will be captaining the Rest of India side in the Irani Cup against Jammu and Kashmir.
