Parthiv Patel best performances in international cricket

Top 3 performances of Parthiv Patel in international cricket

Parthiv Patel was known for his fearless approach at the top of the order and his ability to counterattack despite his small frame. The wicketkeeper-batter made headlines when he debuted in Test cricket at just 17 years and 153 days, becoming the youngest wicketkeeper in the format. While his wicketkeeping improved over time, his batting often stood out, especially in pressure situations. Across his international career, he played 25 Tests and scored 934 runs, while he scored 736 runs in 38 ODIs.

Here are top three performances of Parthiv Patel in international cricket:

56* vs New Zealand, Chennai, 2010

One of Parthiv’s most composed ODI performances came against New Zealand in Chennai during the fifth ODI of the series. The New Zealand batting line-up struggled against India’s bowlers and were bowled out for just 103 runs. Scott Styris was the top scorer for the visitors with 24 runs. For India, the bowlers dominated the game. Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 3/24, while Ashish Nehra, Yuvraj Singh, and Yusuf Pathan chipped in with two wickets each to dismantle the Kiwi batting line-up.

Chasing a modest target, India needed a steady hand to guide them home, and Parthiv provided exactly that. Opening the innings, he played a calm and controlled knock of 56 not out off 70 balls, hitting six fours and a six. He was well supported by Yuvraj Singh, who remained unbeaten on 42. Parthiv’s composed innings ensured India comfortably chased down the target and sealed the win.

56 vs West Indies, Port of Spain, 2011

Parthiv produced another impressive ODI performance against the West Indies in Port of Spain during the second match of the series. Batting first, the hosts posted 240/9 in 50 overs. Lendl Simmons scored 53 while Ramnaresh Sarwan contributed 56 to help West Indies reach a competitive total. India’s bowlers put in a strong effort, with Amit Mishra leading the attack with 4/31, while Munaf Patel took 3/35 and Yusuf Pathan supported well with 2/51.

Rain interrupted the match and revised India’s target to 183 in 37 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis method. In the chase, Virat Kohli played a brilliant knock of 81 runs, while Parthiv provided excellent support with 56 runs off 64 balls, striking two fours and two sixes. His steady innings at the top helped India chase down the target in 33.4 overs, securing an important victory.

95 vs England, Chester-el-Street, 2011

One of the finest innings of Parthiv’s international career came in the first ODI against England at Chester-le-Street in 2011. India batted first and posted 274/7 in 50 overs. While Virat Kohli contributed 55 runs, Parthiv stole the show with a magnificent innings. Opening the batting, Patel scored 95 runs off 107 balls, striking 12 boundaries.

For England, Tim Bresnan and Stuart Broad picked up two wickets each. However, persistent rain halted England’s reply after 7.2 overs at 27/2, and the match ended in no result. Despite the abandoned game, Parthiv’s innings of 95 remains one of the standout knocks of his international career.
