Top 3 performances of Adam Gilchrist in ODIs

Adam Gilchrist is one of the best wicketkeeper-batters in cricket history. The Australian stalwart opened in white-ball cricket and formed a fantastic partnership with Matthew Hayden. His aggressive brand of batting took the game away from the opposition on several occasions.

The 53-year-old played 287 ODIs, scoring 9619 runs at an average of 35.89 and a strike rate of 96.96. He amassed 16 centuries and 55 fifties, registering a highest score of 172.

On that note, here is  a look at three of his best performances in ODI cricket.

3. 172 vs Zimbabwe (January 2004)

Gilchrist played one of his best knocks in the fourth match of the 2004 VB Series at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on January 16, 2004, against Zimbabwe. He scored a fluent 172 off 126 balls, helping Australia amass a huge total of 344/7 in their 50 overs. He smashed 13 fours and three sixes, finishing at a strike rate of 136.50. The Aussies won the match by 148 runs, restricting Zimbabwe to 196/6.

2. 154 vs Sri Lanka (February 1999)

Gilchrist wowed the cricket fraternity with his scintillating batting display in the 15th match of the Carlton & United Series in Melbourne on February 7, 1999. The southpaw opened the batting with Mark Waugh and went on to score a blistering 154 off 129 balls, hitting 14 fours and four sixes. Australia managed 310/8 in their 50 overs, before bowling out Sri Lanka for 267. The Aussies won the match by 43 runs.

1. 149 vs Sri Lanka (April 2007)

This was one of Gilchrist’s most important knocks as it came in the 2007 ODI World Cup final.  He smashed 149 runs off 104 balls with 13 fours and eight sixes at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown on April 28, 2007, as the Aussies aggregated 281/4 in 38 overs. Sri Lanka were restricted to 215/8 in 36 overs in the rain-curtailed clash, losing by 43 runs via DLS method.
