OTD Hardik Pandya was born in 1993

It was on this day, October 11, in 1993, that Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya was born in Choryasi, Surat, Gujarat. His father, Himanshu Pandya, ran a car finance business, and Hardik has an elder brother, Krunal, has also played for India. Their father recognised their cricketing talent and enrolled them into Kiran More’s academy in Baroda.

Hardik studied at the MK High School until ninth grade before dropping out to focus on cricket. Hardik made his Baroda debut in 2013 and helped the side win the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in the 2013–14 season.

He was then scouted by the Mumbai Indians franchise and made his IPL debut in 2015 and stayed with the franchise till 2021. Hardik also made his India debut in 2016, playing in the T20 World Cup that year as well.

He is the type of player who can turn a game around with his aggressive batting and take important wickets as a quick bowler. Pandya is usually regarded as India’s best fast-bowling all-rounder after Kapil Dev.

He won five IPL titles with the Mumbai Indians and then captained the Gujarat Titans to the 2022 IPL title as well. He currently captains the Mumbai Indians franchise since IPL 2024.

Pandya has played 11 Tests, 94 ODIs, and 120 T20Is for India. Unfortunately, he suffered a serious back injury in 2018 and hasn’t played any red-ball cricket since then. He was also the interim ODI and T20I captain of the Indian team.

Pandya has scored 3764 runs and taken 189 wickets in 214 white-ball international games for Indian cricket. He has a Test century and a fifer to his name as well, scoring 532 runs and 17 wickets in the red-ball format.

Hardik Pandya has done extremely well in IPL as well, scoring 2749 runs and taking 78 wickets.
