Women’s World Cup: Top 3 run-getters in tournament history

The ICC Women’s World Cup began in 1973 and has seen Australia win the title seven times and England four times. India has reached the final twice, losing to Australia in 2005 and to England in 2017 in the final.

The Women’s World Cup has grown in stature and has now become a spectacle. It has witnessed some of the best batting performances in its history. Several players have left their mark with astonishing feats with the bat. On that note, we take a look at the top three run-getters in Women’s World Cup history.

3. Janette Brittin (ENGW)—1299runs

Former England batter Janette Brittin made her debut in 1979 for her country. She played in Women’s World Cups in 1982, 1988, 1993, and 1997. Brittin won the Women’s World Cup in 1993 with the England team. She scored 1299 runs at an average of 43.30 in 36 games in the Women’s World Cup, including three centuries and four fifties, with the highest score of 138*.

Brittin scored 2121 runs at an average of 42.42 in 63 Women’s World Cup matches for England, including five centuries and eight fifties, with the highest score being 138*. She unfortunately passed away at the age of 58 in 2017 and was posthumously inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2021.

2. Mithali Raj (INDW)—1321runs

India’s Mithali Raj is the second-highest run-getter in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 tournament. She is the highest run-getter in WODIs as well. She has 7805 runs at an average of 50.68 in 232 WODIs, including seven centuries and 64 fifties, with the highest score of 125*. She captained India in the 2005, 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2022 Women’s World Cups, taking the team to the finals in the 2005 and 2017 editions.

Mithali played in Women’s World Cups from 2000 to 2022. She scored 1321 runs with an average of 47.17 in 38 Women’s World Cup matches, including two centuries and 11 fifties, with the highest score of 109.

1. Debbie Hockley (NZW)—1501 runs

Legendary New Zealand batter Debbie Hockley holds the record for the most runs in Women’s World Cup competition. She played in the ICC Women’s World Cups from 1982 to 2000. Overall, Hockley scored 1501 runs at an average of 42.88 in 45 Women’s World Cup matches, including two centuries and 10 fifties, with the highest score of 100*. She was part of New Zealand’s 2000 World Cup winning team.

Debbie Hockley, who also captained New Zealand, scored 4064 runs at an average of 41.89, including four centuries and 34 fifties, with the highest score of 117. She became the first woman president of New Zealand Cricket in 2016.
