Three reasons why Australia can win the WTC finals

Three reasons why Australia can win the WTC finals

Pat Cummins-led defending champions, Australia, will face South Africa in the highly anticipated World Test Championship 2023-25 final. The iconic clash will be hosted by the Lord’s in London from June 11 to June 15. The Aussies are coming off a 2-0 clean sweep win over Sri Lanka in the previous Test series.

In their last five Tests in the ongoing WTC cycle, the reigning champions have registered four consecutive wins, alongside a drawn game. They will aim to win this game against South Africa and clinch their second consecutive WTC title to establish dominance in the Test Championship as well.

Given that, here we’ll have a look at three reasons why Australia can win the WTC finals against South Africa.

Winning momentum

Pat Cummins and Co finished the tournament’s league stage at second spot in the tournament standings, with 13 wins and only four defeats in their 19 games, including two drawn games. Besides that, they have also been in an amazing winning momentum in their last couple of games in the ongoing WTC 2023-25 cycle.

The Aussies have won seven games, while losing only two, including a drawn game in their last 10 games in the ongoing cycle of the World Test Championship. So, their winning momentum could be a big reason behind their potential win against the Proteas men in the WTC finals.

Defending Champions

Apart from their winning momentum in the last 10 games, Australia also have the added advantage of being the defending champions in the World Test Championship. They defeated India by a big margin of 209 runs in the WTC 2021-23 cycle.

So, being the holders will give an upper hand to the Australian side against Temba Bavuma’s men in the high-octane WTC finals at cricket’s mecca, Lord’s. It might also be one of the big reasons behind Australia winning the WTC cycle for the second consecutive time.

Favourable conditions for bowlers

The conditions in England, especially at the Lord’s in London, are famously known for assisting the bowlers, especially the pacers, in the first half of the game. The surface at the Lord’s in London will have a great assistance to offer for the pacers on the first and second day of the game, which might make it difficult to bat on.

With that said, Australia have some veteran experienced pacers in Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, alongside skipper Pat Cummins. This pace trio might pose a serious threat to the Proteas batter in the World Test Championship 2023-25 final. The power-packed pace attack of Australia might play a crucial role in their win against South Africa.
