Rinku Singh has opened up on his role as a finisher, maintaining composure, and focusing on his fitness. The star player spoke about his role as a batter for India, KKR, and Uttar Pradesh, admitting that he feels quite settled batting at numbers 5 and 6. Rinku also highlighted the need to stay fit during a long tournament like IPL, where one has to play 14 games in the league phase alone.

“I usually bat at No. 5 or 6 — I’ve done that for UP and in the IPL, so I’m used to it. I focus a lot on fitness because with 14 matches in the IPL, it’s my responsibility to maintain my body and recover well,” Rinku told JioHotstar.

The KKR star also spoke about the role MS Dhoni had on his batting. He claimed that he speak with Dhoni often and his advice is to stay calm and play according to the match situation.

“I also speak to Mahi Bhai often — he tells me to stay calm and play according to the match situation. Things fall into place when you stay composed,” the KKR batter added.

I observe Russell closely: Rinku Singh

Rinku also said that observing someone like Andre Russell closely has improved his approach towards batting at the death.

“I’ve been learning since I started playing in the IPL. I observe Russell closely, especially how he bats in the final overs, and how he uses his body to generate power. I keep watching and picking up things from him,” Rinku added.

With high scores becoming the norm in the last two seasons of the IPL, Rinku feels one must not be surprised to see a target of 300 being scored and chased.

“Yes, we can do it. IPL has reached a stage where even 300 is possible; last year, Punjab chased a total of 262 runs. All teams are strong this season—anyone can get to 300,” Rinku concluded.
