‘This franchise has become like family’ – Nat Sciver-Brunt terms WPL 2025 win as ‘special’ for Mumbai Indians

The Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W) won their second Women’s Premier League (WPL) title after they defeated the Delhi Capitals Women (DC-W) by eight runs at the Brabourne Stadium on Saturday, March 15. Remarkably, the Delhi franchise has appeared in all the three finals and lost all of them.

There were standout performers from both the teams during the season but the England and MI-W all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt was far ahead than others. The 32-year-old made her place in the top order her own with notable contributions throughout. The Tokyo-born scored 523 runs, the highest, in 10 innings at an average of 65.37. She was as effective with the ball, picking up 12 wickets in 10 innings and giving away 7.94 runs per over. As a result, Sciver-Brunt won the Most Valuable Player Award for WPL 2025.

The Englishwoman shed light on her achievement and expressed gratefulness. Given the nature of the game, she stated that she is cherishing the moment for now.

“I’m absolutely delighted! It has been a fantastic year for me in the WPL, and to finish as a winner makes it even more special. I’ve played a lot of cricket leading up to this moment, and I’m just grateful to be standing here with this award. Cricket is unpredictable—you can have a great day or get out to an unplayable delivery, but that’s just the nature of the game. Right now, I’m enjoying the highs while they last, knowing that challenges are always around the corner,” said Sciver-Brunt to JioHotstar.

The all-rounder also shared about her team and the players, calling it like “a family’. She termed winning the title together as special.

“We have an incredible team with so many world-class all-rounders—players who can step up for the team at any moment. I feel incredibly lucky to be part of this squad, and it has been an amazing tournament. More than just a team, this franchise has become like family. Winning together makes it even more special, and we couldn’t be happier,” Sciver-Brunt added.
