Three reasons why Australia lost to India in Champions Trophy 2025 semi-finals

India gained a thrilling victory over Australia in the first semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2025. Virat Kohli’s brilliant 84-run knock helped the Men in Blue knock-out Australia from the tournament. India displayed their true team spirit in the tournament, making it to the finals without losing a single game. Meanwhile, Australia did play some quality cricket. However, there were a few things which they lacked, turning into an advantage for India. The Men in Blue won the game by five wickets with KL Rahul hitting the winning runs with a maximum.

Here are the three reasons why Australia lost the game against India:

  1. Lack of batting: Australia scored 264 runs in the first innings which wasn’t sufficient for a team like India. Also, bringing in Cooper Connolly instead of Jake Fraser-Mcgurk was a huge mistake. Jake is much more experienced than Cooper in terms of playing in ODIs. They couldn’t score runs in the powerplays because of this. Moreover, middle order batters like Glenn Maxwell and Josh Inglis failed to perform.
  2. Bowling wasn’t strong and powerful: The Aussies didn’t have good bowlers this time as the main players were ruled out due to some or the other reasons. Steve Smith couldn’t rotate the bowlers well, and ended up giving Connolly eight overs. Most of the bowlers failed to take wickets as well.
  3. Poor fielding: Australia dropped Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s catch in the game which was a huge mistake by the fielders. While Rohit was dismissed on 28 runs, Kohli went on to score 84 runs. This was the turning point of the game. Hence, Australia lost the game and were out of the tournament.
