Predicting Mumbai Indians’ four overseas players for their Playing XI

Five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) winners Mumbai Indians are heading into the new 2025 season on the back of the last-placed finish last year. The decision to elevate Hardik Pandya to the captaincy role didn’t sit down well with the fans. There was palpable anger as Rohit Sharma was asked to relive the position for the Gujarat Titans star.

Before the IPL 2025 Auctions, Mumbai Indians retained the majority of their stars. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was retained as the top choice along with batter Suryakumar Yadav, skipper Hardik Pandya, veteran star Rohit Sharma, and young sensation. Uncapped star Naman Dhir was retained via the Right to Match card for a whopping INR 5.25 Crores.

Some of the overseas recruits made by the Men in Blue and Gold have made the fans excited. Trent Boult is back home after spending three seasons with Rajasthan Royals. Young South African star Ryan Rickelton has been snapped up as well as dashing England star Will Jacks. Mumbai has also roped in Afghanistan sensation Allah Ghazanfar and South African pacer Lizaad Williams.

Here are the four likely overseas players for Mumbai Indians during IPL 2025

Opener – Ryan Rickelton

With Ishan Kishan now out of the picture, Mumbai Indians will look for a player who can give them solid starts at the top. Ryan Rickelton will be expected to open the batting for Mumbai during the IPL 2025 season. Dubbed Quinton De Kock 2.0, the 28-year-old has plenty of experience in the T20 format having played 12 games for his national side and scoring 261 runs with a strike rate of 135. The MI team management also knows the player well as he is part of the MI Cape Town side in the SA20 tournament. In the 17 games for MI Cape Town, Rickelton has scored 676 runs with a strike rate of 155 with 5 half-centuries.

Middle-Order – Will Jacks

Royal Challengers Bengaluru were trolled after failing to use the RTM card for Will Jacks. Mumbai Indians picked up the English star as Akash Ambani even shook hands with the RCB management in one of the biggest moments of IPL 2025 auctions. Will Jacks bat in the middle order and give the innings the impetus they need? So far the 26-year-old has played 8 games in the IPL and scored 230 runs with one century and one fifty with a strike rate of 175. Jacks is also more than useful with the ball having picked a total of 60 wickets in the IPL.

Lower middle Order – Allah Ghazanfar

Allah Ghazanfar

Young Afghanistan star Allah Ghazanfar was called up by KKR as a replacement player last season but wasn’t retained. Mumbai Indians went all out to recruit the young sensation who has been compared to Rashid Khan for his bowling. Young Allah Ghazanfar has played 16 T20I matches and picked 29n wickets with a best of 4/12 and an economy rate of 5.71 runs per over. He is also more than handy with the bat as he can strike the ball big in the death overs.

Bowler – Trent Boult

The veteran Kiwi pacer is expected to end Mumbai Indians’ bowling woes which have plagued them for the last few seasons. Fans are salivating at the prospect of Trent Boult bowling in tandem with Deepak Chahar with the new ball as well as with Bumrah in the death overs. Boult enjoyed massive success during his time with Mumbai Indians. His bowling during the 2020 season where he picked 25 wickets won Mumbai their 5th and final title. Fans already know what he can do with the new ball as Boult holds the record for the most wickets in the first over of IPL history.
