Mohinder Amarnath’s top 3 batting performances in Test Cricket

Mohinder Amarnath is a former India batter who was the son of Lala Amarnath, the first post-independence captain of India. Moreover, he made his debut against Australia in December 1969 at Chennai as a quick-bowling all-rounder. When he was at his peak, he was a top-order batsman who mainly played at No. 3 for India. 

In Test cricket, Amarnath played 69 matches, scoring 4,378 runs at a batting average of 42.50, with 11 hundreds and 24 fifties. He also claimed 32 wickets at a bowling average of 55.68. Mohinder Amarnath scored his highest score against Australia in 1986 in the 3rd Test match. He scored 138 runs off 312 balls, including ten boundaries. The Player of the Match award was given to Kris Srikant for his fearless batting against the mighty Australians. He scored 116 runs off 117 balls, including 19 boundaries and one six. 

2. 131 runs vs Sri Lanka

In the 2nd Test match against Sri Lanka in 1986, Amarnath went on to score his second-highest runs. He slammed 131 runs off 301 balls, including 14 boundaries. India won the game by an innings and 106 runs, and Dilip Vengsarkar was given the Player of the Match award for scoring 153 runs. 

3. 120 runs vs Pakistan

Amarnath’s third-highest runs came against Pakistan in the 5th Test match in 1983. He scored 120 runs off 200 balls, including 15 boundaries and one six. The match ended in a draw due to the batters and bowlers’ brilliant performance in both innings. Kapil Dev won the Player of the Match award, claiming eight wickets in the first innings.
