Top 3 performances of Ravichandran Ashwin in Tests

India’s spin wizard Ravichandran Ashwin is undoubtedly one of the best in the cricket world. Be it batting or bowling, Ashwin aces it in all the departments. Moreover, he’s a fabulous slip catcher too. In tough conditions, he’s India’s go-to man and has rescued the team from dangerous and tricky situations. From playing MS Dhoni to playing under Rohit Sharma, Ashwin has come a long way but Test cricket hasn’t changed for him. He loves to play the longest format of the game where he gets time to read the batters’ minds and trick them into getting out. Also, he’s one of the smartest cricketers in the world.

Let’s look at the top three bowling performances of Ravichandran Ashwin in Tests:

1. 7 wickets vs New Zealand, 2016

Ashwin has great records in red-ball cricket and he has claimed 7-wicket hauls multiple times. But the best one is against New Zealand as it came in just 13.5 overs in the 2nd innings. The best part about the series is that Ashwin claimed a 6-wicket haul in the first innings. Hence, he was given the Player of the Match award for his magnificent performance as India won the game by 321 runs.

In the 3rd Test match, Ashwin claimed a 7-wicket haul in 29.5 overs, dismissing some of the best batters of the team. India won the game by 124 runs and Ashwin won the Player of the Match award for his fifer in the first innings and the 7-wicket haul in the second.

A year back, Ashwin claimed another 7-wicket haul but this time it was against the Caribbean nation. In the 1st Test match, India won the game by an innings and 141 runs thanks to Ashwin’s brilliant bowling efforts. Even after years, he had the magic in him to dismantle the West Indies team. Again in the 1st innings, he claimed a fifer and in the 2nd innings he claimed the 7-wicket haul. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal got the Player of the Match award for his 171 runs.
