Due to the busy schedule in international cricket, the cricketers are getting quite tired. To avoid this pressure, many are choosing a rotation policy, while many are giving up a certain format. Bangladeshi cricketers are not out of it. Opener Tamim Iqbal has recently retired from international T20.
This time Bangladesh team’s ‘Mr. Dependable’ batsman Mushfiqur Rahim walked that way. He said ‘goodbye’ to international cricket. However, Mushfiqur’s major reason for retirement could be that he has been completely off-form in the shortest formats of cricket in recent times. The fatigue of the body is not less.
However, Mushfiqur said that he will continue to play Tests and ODIs for the country. He will also play in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and all franchise tournaments. Meanwhile, if he remains physically fit, this experienced batsman can play for a few more years in Tests and ODIs.
Announcing his retirement in a Facebook message, Mushfiqur wrote, “Assalaamualaikum to all, hope you are doing well. I have been grateful to have you all beside me throughout my long career. Your support has been my inspiration during my highs and lows. Today, I am announcing my retirement from T20 Internationals. I will proudly continue to represent Bangladesh in Test and ODI formats. I am hopeful that I can bring success to our nation in these two formats. I will continue to take part in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and other franchise tournaments. Alhamdulillah. Thank you all.”
It should be noted that Mushfiqur made his T20 debut against Zimbabwe on November 28, 2006 in Khulna in the red-green jersey. After that he played 102 matches for the country. This was where he scored a total of 1500 runs at an average of 19.23. Mushfiqur does not have any century innings in this format. However, he has seen half-centuries six times.
After Mushfiqur’s departure, many Bangladeshi cricketers including Afif, Soumya wished Mushfiqur well on social media. They also acknowledged his contribution to the country’s cricket.
