OTD Australia scored their highest Test total of 758 runs against West Indies in 1955

On this day, back in 1955, the Australian side posted the largest total of 758 runs during the fifth Test match against the West Indies, which took place from June 11 to June 17 at Kingston Oval in Barbados. Notably, Aussie batters went on to showcase their fantastic performance in the Tests match, which helped them register the win by an innings and 82 runs against a strong home side.

Speaking about the game here, it was Windies skipper Denis Atkinson who won the toss and invited the visiting side to bowl first in the game. Notably, after being opted to bat first, they had a poor start as star opening batters John Holt and Hammond Furlonge were departed for just four runs; however, Clyde took the onus as he went on to hammer 155 runs, featuring 23 fours, to post some runs. Following him, Everton Weekes, Frank Worrell, and Garry Sobers made 56, 61, and 35 runs, respectively, to help his side post 357 runs before being bowled out in the game.

However, during the chase, star opener Colin made 127 runs while Neil Harvey hammered 204 runs, featuring 24 fours and one six. In addition, Keith Miller made 109 runs and Ron Archer made 128 runs, which boosted their middle order in the game. Meanwhile, lower-order batter Richie Benaud also played a wonderful knock of 121 runs from 18 boundaries and two sixes, which allowed them to post 758/8d on the fourth day of the Test game.

Following the same, the West Indies got off to a glorious show as Clairmonte made 7 runs, but Clyde Walcott hammered 110 runs. In addition, legendary cricketer Garry Sobers made 64 runs, while Collie Smith made 16 runs. Skipper Denis was quickly departed for four runs in the game. However, it was star batter Everton Weekes who was trying hard to chase, but the side was bundled out, which allowed the visiting side to register the magnificent win over the strong West Indies, who were dominating Test cricket back in the 1950s era.
