IR vs ANS (1st Qualifier) – Highlights
The first qualifier of the Asian Legends League 2025 between IR and ANS at the Miraj International Cricket Stadium, Udaipur, saw an intense battle, with Asian Stars emerging victorious by four wickets to seal their place in the final.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, IR struggled to build a solid foundation, finishing their innings at 142/9 in 20 overs. Jakati Mehran Khan played a resilient knock of 28 runs off 34 balls, but his slow scoring rate put pressure on the middle order. Rahul Yadav, who contributed 26 off 16 balls, started with some aggressive strokes but was dismissed early.
Faisal Fazal, the captain, failed to make an impact, departing for just 5 runs. The standout performer for the Royals was Yogesh Nagar, whose unbeaten 41 off 34 balls provided much-needed stability. However, the rest of the batting lineup crumbled under the disciplined bowling attack of Asian Stars.
The bowling unit of Asian Stars was led by Pawan Suyal and Nazmus Sadat, both of whom picked up three wickets each. Suyal’s spell of 4-0-23-3 was instrumental in dismantling the Royals’ top order, while Sadat’s 4-0-25-3 ensured they never recovered. Dilshan Munaweera and Rishi Dhawan also contributed with crucial wickets, restricting the Royals to a below-par total.
Chasing 143 for victory, ANS got off to a shaky start, losing Ankit Narwal (2 off 8 balls) and their skipper Mehran Khan (22 off 21 balls) early. Kashyap Prajapati couldn’t settle, falling for just 6 runs. However, Rishi Dhawan held the innings together with an authoritative 38 off 33 balls, playing the anchor role.
The real turning point came when Dilshan Munaweera unleashed a counter-attacking 28 off 19 balls, taking on the Royals’ bowlers with aggressive stroke play. His dismissal at 88/4 in 11.2 overs gave the Royals a glimmer of hope, but Sarul Kanwar (29 off 11 balls) played a blistering cameo to tilt the game in Asian Stars’ favor. Swapnil Patil (12 off 14 balls) and Nazmus Sadat (8 off 6 balls) ensured there were no further hiccups, steering their team to victory in 18 overs.
For Indian Royals, Yogesh Nagar was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 4-0-21-2, while Anureet Singh (3-0-24-2) also made significant contributions. Despite their efforts, their bowlers couldn’t stop Asian Stars from reaching the target comfortably.
