RAR vs KINGS (24th Match) – Highlights
In this article, we will discuss the thrilling encounter between RAR and KINGS in the 24th match of the Bangladesh Premier League, held under the lights at Chattogram on January 17, 2025. Rangpur Riders showcased an impressive all-around performance to secure a convincing 33-run victory. Batting first, the Riders posted a competitive total of 164/7 on a challenging pitch, with valuable contributions from their middle-order batsmen.
RAR, after being put to bat, posted a competitive total of 164/7 in their 20 overs, thanks to a stunning counter-attacking innings from Khushdil Shah. In reply, Chittagong Kings faltered under pressure and managed only 131/8, handing Rangpur a convincing 33-run victory.
Rangpur’s innings started shakily as they lost opener Tawfique Khan early, dismissed for 5 by Al Islam. Steven Taylor then anchored the innings with a steady knock of 39 off 32 balls, including one boundary and three sixes. Saif Hassan contributed 17 off 18, but the middle order wobbled as Iftikhar Ahmed departed cheaply for 3. At 67/4, the Riders looked in trouble, but Khushdil Shah took the game by storm.
Smashing 59 runs off just 28 balls, including two fours and seven massive sixes, Khushdil’s innings changed the momentum completely. Supported by a brisk cameo from Mahedi Hasan (17 off 12), the Riders managed to cross the 160-run mark. Mohammad Wasim and Al Islam were the standout bowlers for Chittagong, picking up two wickets each, while Binura Fernando bowled a miserly spell, conceding just 14 runs and taking one wicket in his four overs.
In response, the KINGS chase got off to a disastrous start as opener Usman Khan fell on the very first ball to Rakibul Hasan. Parvez Hossain Emon counterattacked with a fiery 26 off 14 balls, laced with two fours and two sixes, but his dismissal at the end of the fifth over pegged the Kings back. Graham Clark tried to stabilize the innings with 23 off 20, but his departure, followed by Captain Mohammad Mithun’s quick dismissal for 2, left Chittagong struggling at 53/4 inside seven overs.
Shamim Hossain offered resistance with a well-made 38 off 31 balls, featuring one four and three sixes. However, the lack of support from the other end proved costly. Naeem Islam (19 off 24) and the lower middle order could not capitalize on the starts, as Akif Javed bowled a phenomenal spell, claiming four wickets for 32 runs. Khushdil Shah, with two wickets, and Iftikhar Ahmed, with one, further tightened the grip. Despite a late cameo from Arafat Sunny, the Kings fell short by 33 runs, managing just 131/8 in 20 overs.
This victory was a testament to Rangpur Riders’ depth and their ability to perform under pressure. Khushdil Shah’s all-around brilliance and Akif Javed’s fiery bowling were the highlights of this dominant performance.
