SYS vs BRSAL (12th Match) – Highlights
In this article, we will discuss the exciting 12th match of the Bangladesh Premier League 2025, played under the lights at Sylhet on January 7, 2025. The match featured SYS and BRSAL in a highly anticipated encounter. Sylhet Strikers, batting first, managed to post a modest total of 125 runs on the board. However, Fortune Barishal, showcasing a dominant performance, chased down the target with ease in just 10.3 overs, securing a convincing victory by 7 wickets with 57 balls to spare.
The innings began poorly for Sylhet, with opener Rony Talukdar dismissed for a duck in the first over by Kyle Mayers. Rahkeem Cornwall attempted to stabilize the innings with a quickfire 18 off 12 balls, including four boundaries, but his resistance was cut short by Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Zakir Hasan and George Munsey provided a brief spark, adding 49 runs for the third wicket. Munsey, in particular, was aggressive, smashing 28 runs off just 13 balls, including a boundary and three sixes, maintaining a strike rate of 215.38. However, his departure triggered a middle-order collapse.
The Strikers lost wickets at regular intervals, with Aaron Jones and Jaker Ali falling cheaply to Jahandad Khan, who emerged as the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 18 in three overs. Captain Ariful Haque offered some resistance, scoring 36 off 29 balls, including a six and three boundaries. However, he lacked support from the lower order.
Rishad Hossain contributed significantly with the ball, claiming three crucial wickets for just 15 runs in his four overs, stifling Sylhet’s scoring opportunities. Ultimately, the Strikers were bowled out for a modest 125 in 18.2 overs.
In reply, BRSAL made light work of the chase. Although the innings started with a hiccup as captain Tamim Iqbal fell for a golden duck off Rahkeem Cornwall’s bowling, Kyle Mayers and Towhid Hridoy anchored the chase with a stunning display of power-hitting.
Mayers was in sublime form, smashing 59 off 31 balls, decorated with five boundaries and four sixes. Hridoy complemented him well with a blazing 48 off 27 balls, which included eight fours and two sixes. Together, they added a scintillating 116 runs for the third wicket, effectively sealing the match in Barishal’s favor.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib was the lone bright spot for SYS bowlers, picking up two wickets, but he conceded 37 runs in his 3.3 overs. Barishal completed the chase in just 10.3 overs, reaching 126/3 at a remarkable run rate of 12 runs per over. This comprehensive victory by seven wickets with 57 balls to spare showcased Fortune Barishal’s batting prowess and reaffirmed their dominance in the tournament.
